Hello. I am very new to bf, have a 3 month old. Nursing was going very well until I had to go back to work when my baby was only 6 weeks. I only work two days a week, after my 2nd week back I got a clogged duct--I guess from pumping? Anyway about three days later I noticed what looked like a white-head pimple on my breast. It burst eventually and the clogged area drained. But the white area never went back to normal. Now it is no longer raised like a pimple but is flat--appears in just one nipple pore and will burst after nursing or pumping to look like a circle of white in that pore with a hole in the center. This has been going on for FOUR weeks now. Sometimes it is hard to get that area to burst and the duct will always end up clogged as a result. I have tried hot water soaks, epsom salt soaks, cotton soaked in olive oil against my breast, pressure massages while pumping/nursing--I have seen my OB and a breast surgeon. It hurts to bf on this breast, sharp pains at the beginning and a burning sensation after my baby's finished. I can't imagine this is normal, but I can't seem to get any help. Please suggestions.

I had that happen a lot when I was first bfing dd. I think it would get clogged because the position she was nursing in didn't allow her to suck enough on that particular pore. I tried to vary the positions in which she nursed and that seemed to help.

When I would get one of those white spots, though, I would take a pair of tweezers and pull it out and bfing would be a lot more comfortable after that. I would nurse dd on that breast right after I pulled out the plug.

Good luck to you!

I had a really (really!) persistant one of these (same spot) that lasted for months. I'd usually get a clogged duct in that area too. I just kept opening it up (I would do it at the end of my shower when it had softened and pick it open with a clean fingernail...yes, not the advice a doc would give, I know!! ) For some reason, eventually, it just stopped recurring. I tried to be scrupulous about latch and that seemed to help.
