We need a second car soon and I want a hybrid. The mileage on the Prius is so good that it's hard to really consider any of the other hybrids. So if you have one post and let me know how you like it. I don't have littles so no need for car seats or anything. Dh is mostly going to be driving it back and forth to work except when I talk him into letting me use it for the day. I don't drive much though and I'm sure it will be out weekend car too.

I did read some stuff about corrosion happening on the electric battery terminals and some issues with repair people wanting to replace the whole battery system and not knowing you can just repair the terminal with the problem.

I don't have one but my parents have two! Their first one is one of the older, smaller models. They liked that so much that when their second car needed to be replaced they bought one of the newer, larger Priuses. They haven't had any major issues with either one.

I know my mom belongs to a couple of Prius yahoo groups. I know she's gotten an unbelievable amount of info from them. I can find out the specific groups if you're interested.

My mil had one for a couple years she recently traded it in for a camry hybrid. She said it was only a few thousand more dollars but she likes the size difference. She felt the Prius was too small.

I don't own one, but my other pagan friends and I get a juvenile kick out of how close the word "Prius" is to the name of the God "Priapus" (I'm sure they're related somehow ). And I think of it ever. time. I see one. I like to think of it as another small way of remembering the Gods.

Anyway, it's completely irrelevant, but I thought you'd appreciate it.

I have an older Prius (2002) and I love it. It is comfortable (even with 2 big carseats in the back) and the gas mileage is fabulous. One thing to be aware of if you are buying an older Prius: you cannot buy a new conventional battery for it without either retrofitting your car or buying a funky adapter kit and a Miata battery (ask how I know this). The hybrid battery has not changed. If you are buying a new Prius, ignore what I just wrote. They changed conventional battery types after 2004.

I wanted to add that there is a LOT more room than in the backseat of my forester. we take dh's car way more often than mine!

Teak's mom, does that mean that the warning about having to spend $$$$$ to replace the battery after 7 years (or whatever it was) is now moot?

I love the Prius cars, but when I saw, I think it was a thread here, about the battery being insanely expensive to replace, I got scared away from the deam of someday having one

We just got back from test driving the 2007 and we are buying one. We just need to wait a few weeks to work out some financial stuff. I love it and so does dh. I was worried their wouldn't be enough leg room since dh is 6'4" but he had plenty of room driving it and there was so much room in the back seat.

We looked at those too and they are beautiful, but they don't get nearly as good of gas mileage so I decided no on them.

We have a Honda Civic Hybrid and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Comfortable, very roomy actually (ds is tall, and the trunk actually is pretty decent too - good enough for a trip to Home Depot), great fun to drive, looks cool, and costs next to nothing to operate. We've been running on the same tank of gas for over 3 months!

If you can wait a year or so Toyota will be coming out with their next gen hybrids which will get close to 90-100 MPG.

We drove a Prius for 2yrs and loved it. Very roomy and safe. We are waiting on the new one hopefully out next year

I'm going to get one now as well. I do think the next generation will be great, but I would want to wait a few years for them to get any kinks out of whatever new technology they have in there.

What color are you getting? Sorry if I missed that! I really can't decide on what color. I like that dark gray, but I've heard that it might get hot. I love silver, but there are so many silver ones around here I would have trouble finding my car. I think I love the pale green, but I also might hate it. I'm not sure. .

I like the dark grey also (that is the color we test drove), and since we are planning on moving to the PNW hot won't be a problem, it will be welcome I also like the silver pine (mint green) color.

Unreal, the conventional battery is now pretty standard and doesn't cost more than any other car battery. The hybrid battery is still pretty pricey, but it lasts longer. My calculations showed that the savings in gas mileage slightly more than balanced it out.

I've heard they drive like crap if you want to go fast (not that I'm THAT kind of driver ). I would love a hybrid, and we're waiting to see what comes out in the next few years.
