Sorry I couldn't edit the title ~ it really should read who here HAS OCD.

Did any of you get postpartum OCD?

This was the bulk of my ppd problems, and b/c of the ocd I had anxiety ~ it's now starting to calm down but it still lingers a bit. My anxiety for the most part is gone and my OCD is mostly at night ~ I found GOOD dark chocolate, white chestnut bach flower remedy and rescue remedy (another bach flower) to be helpful in the later stages ~ I didn't know about any of those when I first had it so I'm not sure what the affect would be.

In realizing that this was pp OCD I realized I've been OCD all my life, I count EVERYTHING lol I never realized that a lot of my thinking had an OCD like behavior. So while having ppd was really horrible it also taught me a lot about who I am.

Also in reading the book The Diet Cure it's given me a lot of hope that I can address this w/ supplements and not meds.

Anyhow, I'm just curious if anyone here has or is dealing with this, and what helped you

I've OCD. like most the severity comes and goes, for now it's close to nothing. when my son was born I was convinced, utterly convinced, he wuld stop breathing in his sleep. I shook that poor child to wake him numerous times a night until he was 10 years old. I saw him sleeping the other day (he is now 12) and the old panic came back and I was shaking him to wake him, sure he wasn't breathing (he was, and was really annoyed)

that was my worst, I think. although I can be very paranoid (following him to school after telling him he could walk the 2 blocks on his own at age 9, etc :$) but otherwise it wasnt too severe.

ahh I had that same fear too when Seamus was first born ~ there was a time where he wasn't breathing normal and it sent my OCD into over drive, it was not fun.

Like you though it's fadded and not as severe nor is the anxiety that accompanies it, he's now almost 5 months and it flutters in and out (mostly at night) but it's controllable. (is that a word? LOL)

I do not have OCD myself, but my sister suffered horrible from this after each pregnancy. It got worse and worse and after her third, she could barely leave her house. Fortunately her last DK is now 3 and my sister is on meds and is doing soooooooooo much better. It took a long time though.

I have OCD and I've had it since childhood. I used to take meds for it but ended up just using cognitive strategies to help when it flares up. The symptoms often recede for a while and then come back with a vengeance if I'm overly stressed.

I totally had OCD symptoms in the postpartum period but because I already knew how to deal with them, I don't think it was as bad for me as it would have been if I had never had OCD before. In fact, if these had been the first OCD symptoms I'd ever had, I'd have been downright terrified.

As it was, I used my cognitive behavioral techniques to cope, and the symptoms gradually lessened.
