Please tell me about it. My son is 6.5 months. He isn't sitting by himself. We have experimented with some food and he LOVES it but I read the articles on Kellymom and wanted him to ebf as long as possible but when then, is it time to start?

Ds2 turns 7 months tomorrow, and he just tonight had his first taste of solid food. He seems like he's really interested in them, so I guess he'll start getting more at dinner.

I think it is good to let your child lead the way, if he's interested in trying more than your milk, then let him, but don't reduce the amount of milk he gets from you, as this is the best (make that totally amazing!) thing he can get. Our son has started on mango (sieved) he used to suck on the huge seed inside, watermelon (sieved) and banana (he sucks the outer flesh) I should avoid the inner part to start with.

DS is 8 months, he has been sitting for months now, and when he turned 6 months DH was insisting to offer solids. So we offered organic carrots, sweet potato, apple sauce and happy bellies rice cereal. He doesn't want either. Still not. I offer him apple sauce once a week to look at and play with, but he sure doesn't want to eat it. I'M fine with it, less work for now :p
If your baby is interested, it' ok to follow his lead I think.

I follow my babies lead. Is he grabbing at food from your plate? Does he smack his lips at it or mimic you eating? When he shows signs like that I might offer him a finger food in a mesh feeder and see what he does with it. If it looks like he is eating it rather than playing with it mostly, I'd try to offer food at regular mealtimes, and go from there. Watch for allergens of course. I wouldn't start with baby cereal.
DD1 wasn't interested in food at all until around 10 months. She was EBF until then, and then only ate snack like foods like cucumber, some eggs, bread. DD2 on the other hand has been wanting food since before 6 months even, but has ate regularly since 6 months, and is now wanting to feed herself. She'll be 1 on the 28th.

So the consensus is to follow his lead. I have done a sort of hybrid blw and mashed stuff on a spoon so far. he has enjoyed playing with spoons for awhile now. i put the mashed banana on the spoon and he eats it, bangs it around and then looks at me expectantly. Repeat until he stops wanting it. I was just surprised by how much banana he actually ingested. I wasn't prepared. I tried blw style with banana, avocado, and a soft plum. Each time he got a huge chunk in his mouth and I had to get it out. This freaked me out so I started the spoon thing. He is VERY interested in our meal times. It is getting very difficult to fob him off with a spoon or other object. He has tasted banana and he wants more. I guess I need to go with it. The Kellymom thing just made me worry about his iron and immunity. I guess at almost 7 mos EBF he is good to go. Follow my baby, got it.

my guy gets as much breast milk as he wants--and that's mostly what he wants.

but, he loves to suck on/gnaw on apples, carrots, cucumber, pear, etc. i just cut them into chunks. most of it ends up on his shirt and he just gets the juices and a taste. when he puts it down, we clean it up and put it away.

so, he's definitely in charge.

We did BLW and started giving her the option at around 6.5 months. She wasn't really interested until about 7 months. Now at 9 months, she's starting to actually eat something. She still nurses the same amount.

Mine can sit by himself, and is ready in all the BLW ways. However, we've given him things a few times, and he's totally uninterested, so we just quit. He loves breastmilkcicles in his mesh feeder however.
