I volunteered at the shelter yesterday. So many awesome dogs, you can't imagine.

There was a big beautiful great dane, may have been a mix, but definitely mostly dane. It came in as a stray and no one claimed it. It's about 10 months and HUGE! I guess it has been there for weeks.

There was also a 5 year old owner surrender, super sweet dalmation, a nice purebred border collie, a dog that looked like a weim but was smaller and black, a beagle, a cocker spaniel mix, a lhasa apso, three chihuahuas, a pair of gorgeous purebred GSDs, a white GSD.

Plus of course, plenty of shepherd mixes, lab mixes, and lots of pitbulls.

Awww...my husband would probably leave me if I got another Dane, but its soooo tempting, I just LOVE them! Just out of curiousity, what state is this in? I've volunteered w/ several breed rescues and they may know a rescue in the area who can help...

I'm in Washington state. I can't take any more dogs (let alone afford to feed a great dane PUPPY), but I'd love to help this guy out, he's a nice dog!

Too bad I'm on the other side of the country... But, you might want to try contacting Dane Outreach HERE and see if they can help. As far as I know, they are the only great dane rescue in Washington state that is affiliated with the Great Dane Club of America (this is coming from a breeder friend of mine who is involved in rescue and has friends on the West Coast). For the others (at least the purebreds), you can always Google a search for specific breed rescues in Washington. It sucks that we can't save them all...

On a side note, I'm not sure how *I* am affording to feed our dane, either! LOL He goes thru a 20lb bag of food a week, sometimes more (and he's almost 2!) Its obnoxious how much he eats...I have no idea how my breeder friend affords to feed the 13 adults and however many puppies she has at any given time!
