Anyone else have low hemoglobin?
At my midwife appointment today my hemoglobin was 108 (I think that would be 10.8 in American terms?). Too low. I actually started taking Floradix in the regular dose about 5 weeks ago and it's still this low. Part of the problem, really, is that I'm just not getting much iron in my diet. I haven't wanted meat through this whole pregnancy, I haven't wanted beans until recently, and I've been craving and guzzling milk and cheese - not helpful for iron absorption!
The midwife wasn't too concerned, since at this stage (28+4) it's normal for the hemoglobin to drop as the blood volume rises, but she did suggest I take two doses of Floradix per day and vit C at the same time. I think that sounds like a good start, but I really need to focus on adding iron-containing foods to my diet. I also don't think I'm getting enough folate, which is also important for making hemoglobin. So I thought maybe a "what did you eat today" sort of thread might be helpful. Also for avoiding junk food, which I've been eating way too much of this whole time. Anyone want to join?
So today is not off to a great start, but that's ok.
Breakfast: Three weetabix, raw milk
Lunch: Liver with sage, salt, pepper, lemon and sauteed onions, french bread and butter, a small tomato. (I have been planning on starting to eat liver once a week for quite a while now and I think this is the time. I know it's controversial but I feel that one slice of liver per week is safe.) Oh my, it was incredibly good. Which must mean I really need it because normally I find it repulsive.
Dinner: Going to be a tofu stir-fry with coconut oil, asparagus, carrots, bok choy, dried seaweed. With jasmine rice.
Snacks: Apple, two small tomatoes, french bread with butter and gouda cheese, a couple teaspoons of blackstrap molasses
