I searched for whooping cough and all the posts seem to be in here even if the post is not about vax. That is why I am posting here.

My 5 month old and I are sick. I just did a search on pertussis and found the following symptoms (stars are my symptoms):
*runny nose
*cough, severe, may be dry or may produce sputum
*slight fever (102 F or lower)
severe coughing attacks
*ends in a high-pitched, crowing sound when inhaling, or ends in a high-pitched "whoop" (whooping cough)
coughing spell (paroxysm) may end in a momentary loss of consciousness
*cough with difficulty breathing
vomiting during a severe bout of coughing
*diarrhea
choking spells in infants

My cough for 1-2 days was whoop like because I could not take a breath as stuff would clog up my windpipe. Now I am better but still have cold & cough. The hard to breath part is scary. Baby has a cough during the day but is getting worse. No cough at night like I do. Going on a week now. Both seem to be on the mend other then the cough as now we have crusty nose as oppossed to all the time runny. My son is not vaxed. Nursing on demmand.

I have no idea if we have whooping cough or just a bad cold. But vitamin c seems like a good idea either way.

About vitamin c. What do I give him? I can take regular tablets but have no idea how to give him any. What would I ask for at the health food store? This poor baby has reacted to too many foods in my diet. I know my system is severely depleted. If I take a multi vitamin in the morning, within 4 hours he is screaming colic like. Thus I am a little concerned about what I take and what I give him.

I am also a little paranoid about calling the dr. I got guilt over not taking ds to a 4 month check up. (dr we had appt with canceled at the last minute and I found myself in the yearly 4 weeks of non stop Christmas rush with my business followed by my food poisoning and now this). Since we are delaying vax and baby has no issues I was not worried. Wish I could find a better pediatrician though.

And another Q. If this is pertussis and we work our way through it without a trip to the dr, can they test for the antibodies to see later on to help my case against any not needed vax?

maybe try a GP/family doc instead of a ped. Ours accepts our religious exemption and my motherly common sense. He knows I always call if I need him, and it is assuring to have him in our corner.

You don't need anything to prove your case for not vaxing. It is still legal to refuse. Are you aware of your state's laws and exemptions?

Just a couple things to think over; disregard me if they don't apply!

Prayers and good thoughts for quick healing, for you and your baby
