The most likely culprit would be PUPPPS, a pregnancy-
caused skin condition that is cured only by giving birth. : BUT, I was diagnosed this during my first PG, and when it didn't end with delivery, I figured out that I'd instead developed a dairy intolerance. As soon as I cut out dairy (well, withing a few weeks--it takes awhile to get out of the system), my rash went away.

I think too much B vitamins can make you itchy. Vitamin B2.

Are you eating lots of fortified cereals, products, and taking a prenatal?

You can ask your midwife about it and she what she thinks.

When I was in my twenties and eating a super healthy super crunchy diet I couldn't take a multivitamin because it made me itch like h#ll.

Oh yes... I am itchy as well!!! I am almost 18 weeks along and have been itchy since about 10 weeks... and it keeps getting worse! Mostly my legs and mostly at night when I am trying to fall asleep.
I had this w/ my last pregnancy as well. It did go away after birth.
For me I know it isn't a dairy intolerance, as I rarely eat dairy. And I am pretty sure it is not from B vitamins, as I am not taking any high doses of B's.
I also know it isn't fromdry skin, as I slather on thick nourishing lotions twice daily, drink tons of water, and take in a lot of essential oils!
It is a somewhat common pregnancy symptom. Nothing to worry about, just VERY annoying!!!

I had PUPPPS with my first pg and was itchy all the way through. I think the PUPPPS only came on in late 2nd trimester though. I gained a huge amount of weight and think my skin was just stretching. Got a ton of stretchmarks. When the PUPPPS came it was all over my body. Started on my belly but by the end the only places I didn't have it were groin, rear end, and face/neck. Finally took a steriod dosepack and it went away. I couldn't wait until I was full term-- that was a full 10 weeks away!

Anyway, try getting some pure Vitamin E and coconut oil solution and use that after a shower. If that doesn't work try extra stength Gold Bond lotion in the green bottle. It will provide temporary relief. One last thing-- don't take showers that are too hot-- it can make your skin irritated and itchy.

Oh I had that itching for about half my pregnancy. It was making me nuts I couldn't stand it. What I ended up doing is not using any soap/or washing product at all on my skin in the shower, I just let the water rinse me. Then I would cover my body in either jojoba oil or Avenno lotion, and then every night lotion again. When certain parts of the itching got really bad, I'd put on some benadryl cream, not the best but the itching was so bad I couldn't stand it.

It does tend to drive me nutso!! It could be the soap I never thought of that. I may try my childrens soap and if that doesnt work then try no soap at all. I tell ya the things we do to have babies

there is also a consition called cholestasis--if u notice the itching is mostly on ur palms or bottom of ur feet but it may be all over as well, then talk to ur health care provider (midwife, dr, etc) and ask for a 'bile salts' test..they will test the level of bile salts in your blood to determine whether or not it is cholestasis..

there is a site with lots of info www.itchymoms.com as well as a yahoo group i found extremely useful...to the point that my doc was goin to prescribe something to me that has NOT been proven safe for pregnancy and i did the researchand found there is something out there that *is* safe for pregnancy and told him to prescribe that

anyway it's good that u ask but dont get too worried, just do some reading adn ask ur healthcare provider what they think

if u have any questions pm me
gtg. dd's getting annoyed

I second the Cholestasis thing. My friend lost her son at 7 weeks due to this condition in her. She was so itchy that she made bruises from scratching. It caused her son to not absorb Vitamin K and he died from internal bleeding at 7 weeks. Just to be safe.

well, this might not be all that relevant since you said you don't have a rash. but i had a very itchy condition in my first pregnancy that started just a couple of weeks before my due date. we just called it pregnancy rash, but perhaps it was the pupps thing. it was like full body poison oak. awful. one doctor explained that it can be caused by liver salts spilling into your bloodstream. but for the most part it seemed like there was no explanation for it. it did go away after delivery.

Try to cut out salt from your diet and add OMG 3 Fatty acids. I like www.nordicnauticals.com.

The oils will help your skin internally.

Good luck.
