My 6wo is very content and sleeps very soundly during the day.

Come night time, he starts to fuss around 9:00 and then about 1:00 in the morning he'll wake up and start kicking his legs, moving his arms and breathing like he's in a panic. Then after a few minutes he's asleep and then starts going crazy again after about 10 minutes.

This goes on throughout the night and he is so exhausted (as I), I can tell he wants to sleep, but the pains are unbearable.

I have been giving him a homeopathic remedy for colic, as well as gripe water. My only "gripe" about gripe water is, is that there is sugar in it.

How long will this stage last?

Anybody else experience this? Anybody else have any suggestions to help the gas?

I So so hear you!! My son is just 6 weeks old today and so far I was not able to get any sleep b/c of his gas!! He sleeps ok, but his sleep is so soundly that nobosy else can sleep! He is fine during the day but as soon as night comes he has so much gas! I have been giving him homeopathics too for colic, but did not really help.
This Friday I went to see lactation consultant and was complaining to her about how gassy he was and she told me about Mylicon drops for gas relieve - it is not natural, but I tell youI was willing to try anything out at that point! She said it's very safe, it does not get into blood streem, it only helps to releas the gas. She was very nice and she hated drugs so I knew she would not recommend anything bad.
Well, so we went to drug store and bought it - yesterday, after about 4 doses of Mylicon, he slept the WHOLE DAY!!! I thought it was not my child!! He ate about every 3-4 hours (unlike every 45 minutes before) and he slept the WHOLE night, nuring twice. He was OUT!! He sleeps and sleeps, no noise (well, a little still, but it's normal). I was so HAPPY as you can imagine. It was first time we slept (my DH & I & DS) together in one room! He was so peaceful all day long and all night........
She also told me that when babies have gas they think they are hungry all the time (reason why he was nursing every 45 minutes before!), so now he nurses every 3-4hours) - what a relieve!!

I think its because those little digestive systems need a lot of help- they are just figuring out how to work. And one of the things that helps them all day is being moved around picked up, help over your arm, turned, wiggled.

Sometimes bicycling his legs can help.

And if it is bad then I would look at my own diet and eliminate the worst causes of gas. (He is breastfed?, if not maybe a different formula.)
