I am getting super sick of all the huggies...luvs...pampers commercials, but it got me thinking. Why don't bigger companies (motherease, fuzzibunz) advertise on TV? I bet there would be big repsonse. People just don't KNOW that there are options!

Yes I think if I were in the position they are finantually I would do a commercial. IT would be so cool to see cloth on television!

Exactly. Although, I swore (but someone correct me if I'm wrong) on one of the Friend's episodes (I think it was in Season 2) Rachel was changing Ross's son's diaper and it looked like a Kooshies dipe or one of the mass produced dipes. It was definitely not a sposie! It looked like a paint splattered print. Anyone else remember seeing that?

Right- if they are already making tons, they don't need to spend their earnings on advertising. I honestly don't think a TV commercial would convert people. CDing is such a lifestyle thing, like a religion almost. TV advertising is so mainstream, and doesn't really educate consumers, only gets the name of a product out there. Interesting topic!

I dont think it is so much the manufacturers or makers of diapers as it is the availability for them off the web. I think if there were more brick and mortor stores the availability of cloth would be better and therefore the commercials easier. I have been wanting to open a brick and mortor store for sometime it is in a 5 year plan, to make a commercial video would be about 800-1000$$ alone and then to actually get the space to advertise it on cable is the Real$$$$. Personally I am not sure how great it would be for those companys to advertise not everyone has internet yet,,, it would be nice to get special financing for a brock and mortor store though LOL

I don't know, I think a cloth commercial on network television would make a difference for those out there who think it's only pins and rubber pants, but would opt away from sposies if there was a neat looking alternative right under their nose (forbid they do the research themselves). Not to be crunchy or alternative, but maybe the cuteness factor or if the health risks of sposies were mentioned.... I think that higher-end, handmade stuff should be sold in boutique baby stores that are $$$$ and attract moms wanting to spend mad money on anything cute to put on their babe. I know the web WAHMs we all know and love are doing just fine on their sites, but perhaps a new up-and-coming WAHM could sew cute creations just for the local baby boutiques in her area, and if that sort of thing spread, then maybe the wealthy mamas would all be expected to be gifted gorgeous diaper art at their baby showers--can you imagine!?

I for one wouldn't want them advertised on the tv because the cost to advertise would only drive the $$ up of the diapers. And, as far as a store front, well usually, those stores usually wind up having to charge more for diapers too, for overhead...unless they're operating the store front out of their home. That's why I usually will buy a lot of baby items on the internet, because sometimes you can get a free shipping deal and not have to worry about the markup. I just know that I purchased a stoller on the internet when I could have driven 15 minutes and bought it from a store, but the store was going to tag on a $75 freight charge.

Those are good points. YOu know, I also think that one of the things a lot of us here like about cd'ing is that it's NOT mainstream, we enjoy the novelty. Just like we all like the cute prints, and like putting something unique and specially made on our babies' bottoms. I just can't see getting excited at seeing mass produced pinheads at the department store. It's fun to go on the site and buy the only one there in that particular print. It would be interesting to see what would happen, though, and I do wish more people used cloth.

I agree, based on my own experience, that people would be much more willing to use cloth diapers if they were aware of the fact that it's not about pins and rubber pants. When I first saw CD's I knew I wanted to use them when I had my own baby.

.....and, same with slings. I didn't know people use slings and pouches, I've only seen that kind of stuff in the national geographic, yk, and then I came here, wondered into the babywearing board, and we LOVE our pouch! (I'm neither crunchy nor mainstream).
