So you know how when you give birth in a hospital most of the time you get a free diaper bag with formula samples in it, well why can't if a mother says she is going to breastfeed why can't she get a special diaper bag to encourage that? I wish I had a lot of money bc I would be willing to figure out a way to hand out breastfeeding friendly diaper bags so that a nursing mother especially for first timers who don't konw what to expect can have resourses and other samples of things that they might need. If only......'sigh'......

I was just thinking of this today when I was taking my friend out to get her some nursing tanks and some lily padz and things like that. I have already told her she can call me no matter what time day or night and I will be here for her for whatever she needs but we were talking about the diaper bag they give away at the hospital and I told her to just leave the formula there and she said well she hates to waste it and I said it won't go to waste but if you have it at your house then you are more likely to use it when you are so overly tired and you make a bad mistake and then you regret it. I have already told her to take all the bottles out of her house and let them be at her moms which is quite a ways away and that way there is no temptation there when things "if they do" get tough in those first few weeks.....uuugggg I just hope my support is enough!

I got a "breastfeeding" bag from the hospital where I had DD. I put it in quotes because while it did have lots of info on BFing, a couple of reusable ice packs and special pouches to put them into in the bag (for storing pumped milk), etc., it also had a big ol' can of formula. :irk That can, unopened, is still "decorating" my kitchen. I'm undecided what to do with it, thought about taking it to a women's shelter but until then it's still here.

I almost got the "breastfeeding" bag with my second daughter, but at the last minute the nurse went back and got me the other one because it was bigger. She also brought in the flat of formula samples (which, of course, were their most expensive type). Not sure why she thought I'd need those, as she knew I'd nursed my first.

I used the diaper bag until it fell apart, though. And I am happy to say that the hospital diaper bag they gave me in Hawaii had formula nowhere near it (not even Enfamil on the inside).

I got a breastfeeding bag with my second, that had a manual medela pump, breast shells and pads, lansinoh, and a variety of other goodies and vitamins, etc. Yes, I also got the formula baggie, so I ended up with two, yay! I was also a first time BFer, and wasn't sure if it would work out or not, so they gave me both.

Now with my 3rd, I knew I would bf, and was nursing within 30 min of her being born. She NEVER left my room, and we nursed almost nonstop. And I got a bag of formula. No pump, no nursing essentials, nothing. I was a little diappointed. Didn't even get a visit with a LC (and at my last birth, the LC came to see me several times).
