So, I'm on WIC and have been wondering ever since I started getting the breastfeeding package... why on earth do they give you CARROTS but *NO* other vegetables?? Now, I know carrots are good for you, but what makes them so much better/more important than, say, broccoli, lettuce, spinach, peppers, onions, etc?? It just seems like kind of a wierd/random choice to me...

It's a nutrient thing... WIC only focuses on certain things like Protien and iron, and usually supplies the cheapest/eaisest ways to get those things (like eggs or peanut butter)

I'm not sure specifically what they are going for with the carrots, but I'm sure it's something.

Hmm, good question. Maybe the Vitamin A or because their a really beneficial vegi that comes pre-weighed and the price doesn't change much. Or maybe they think that carrots are the vegi most likely to actually be eaten by the general public - or the most versatile.

I always assumed it was because they are more likely to be eaten even by those who aren't used to other veggies. Or that they are easy to make?

Not sure, but I have noticed the tendancy there to assume we're all, ummm idiots lol, so maybe they just don't think we could handle anything else?
