DS recently outgrew his infant ucpfs, and when I got them all out, I noitced the ones I'd been using all the time had turned more white than they used to be. Is this nornal? My dipes weren't soft anymore either, but I know that's my fault for not stripping them. (I live in an area with water that's more on the soft side)
Here is my washing routine:
1 cold wash with All F & C
1 hot wash with no detergent

Should I change my washing routine? HELP! I don't want to mess up the regular ucpfs I ordered...Or, if this is normal, please tell me so I know my dipes will be okay.

I use ubcpfs and they have lightened up a bit. Not so much that you'd ever mistake them for bleached, though.

If you hang your diapers out to dry in the sun, that will make them lighter, too.

My wash routine (I'm not nutty about stains, though):
1 hot wash/cold rinse with All F&C or Gain (regular)
1 cold rinse
Into the dryer

As for them not being soft, I think stripping would help. I'm sure other mamas here will have more input on that.

The other thing to look into is where you got the ubcpfs from. Different types of cotton from different places can also act funny. Not all ubcpfs are created equal nor are they necessarily all from china.

My husband asked if you have asked everyone in the house this question. He said it sounds like something he might do and just put them back in the dirty pail as to not admit that he messed up. :

Squirmyworm,
I loved your husband's question
I actually won't let dh wash the dipes. I'm a bit of a nut about doing laundry myself. I've done my own laundry since 6th grade when my dad ruined some of my favorite outfits.
Since the lightening is normal, I'll just strip the dipes and see if that makes them soft again. Thanks!

For softness, if stripping them doesn't work too well (it didn't for me anyway) try downy advance. I SWEAR by it! it made my CPF's soft as butter and my scratchy hemp fleece, soft as the bum it goes on!~
