from their bank? Some banks just look at it for ID purposes and others actually side it through a reader or write down your license # on it... I was just wondering as to why? Do they accept passports? I am in the process of opening a credit union acct (had been using my husband's until we seperated) and I lost my license at the park I think.

Yes, they just have to keep a record that they saw ID. That way if the check is cashed and it wasn't the payee who cashed it, the teller is "covered." S/he can say, "But I saw ID - see, I recorded it!"

If you lost your DL you should have that one cancelled and a new one issued with a new number.
If you don't record that one as lost/stolen then anybody could use it and you could end up in trouble if they pretended to be you.
