This is a big TMI.

I've definitely felt very swollen in my vaginal/rectal area for at least five weeks. I"m about 29 wks now. All of a sudden, my rectal area is killing me, like tons of pressure! It feels similar to as if I had been punched in my butt, like i've got a bruise or something!! Sorry this is so ridiculous, but I don't remember this with DS1!

Is it just increased blood flow? I've been a bit constipated, but really not too bad.

What do you think?

I'm having the same issues. I *think* it's the start of hemorrhoids, so be careful -- eat plenty of fiber and drink lots of water so you don't get constipated and make it worse. That's the only thing I can think of though.

I'm so glad you asked. I've been wondering how I would phrase a post about pain and swelling in this general vicinity. I'm having the same kind of trouble, and I think that even my labia are swelling a bit. I totally think it's just increased bloodflow to the area, but geez. I'm only about 15 weeks along, and I feel like I could be next to the baboons on National Geopraphic.
I agree that with the pp poster about watching out for hemorrhoids, though, as the only one I have ever had, which arrived with the birth of my son and disappeared without a trace for nearly 2 years, is back as of this morning. yuck. I think it's the bloodflow that's exasporated it though, and not the other way around. Fiber, water, and NO straining.

Meanwhile, I'm considering sitting on an icepack - what do you think? works for most bruises and swelling, right?

I've had the rectal pain on and off. I actually can often relate it to BH contractions. It hasn't been so bad lately (I'm at 29 weeks) but a few weeks ago it was pretty intense sometimes. I haven't noticed any hemorrhoids, and I'm not constipated.

I don't know what it is, but I'm assuming it's related to increased blood and just the pressure of the babe, in addition to the contractions. I get a fair bit of swelling in my yoni, too, especially in the mornings.

Doing Kegels is supposed to help increase the circulation in this area, which will help with the swelling and prevent hemorrhoids. Hope you feel better!

I'm 19 weeks, and have had the same problem since probably 12 weeks or so - maybe a bit earlier, but I was so sick that it wasn't a high priority on my "watch" list. lol I'm getting a lot of baby kicks to my cervix area, so I assumed it was just my pelvic floor taking a little abuse when baby rides low in the uterus.

I too have this same problem but didn't notice it with my DS.

I usually notice it when I am quite constipated.

It could be varicose veins in that area (otherwise known as hemorrhoids on your bottom). You could take a mirror and look to see if you can see what is going on down there. It could also just be pressure from your growing baby. You are not alone!!

I was shocked that my labia and rectum swelled so much at mid pregnancy this time around.

For me it was just a case of increased blood flow. Everything in the area would get "puffy" if I sat in certain positions to long. The swelling came and went during periods of increased hormones. I hope it won't be constant for you too.

Do you have a boppy pillow? It's great for sitting on at times like these. it's also good to sit on after the baby comes if you are having any swelling issues. The hole is in just the right place to relieve pressure.

I have the same problem with swelling in my rectum and labia. It bothers me most when I'm sitting in a hard chair or when I contract my groin muscles to sit, especially on the toilet! (eeks! TMI) I have internal hemorrhoids only, so I know that's not the problem. I agree with AbbieB, sitting up in bed with my body pillow under my thighs and good back support seems to help the pressure. Good luck!

To the OP: I didn't experience any rectal pain/pressure during pregnancy at all but did during labor & during my m/c so I'm no help there.

Just lurking and wanted to offer a suggestion to Hezzy or anyone else who might feel this way; if it was a stabbing type pain there, if you feel this again putting pressure with a tennis ball on the area may help (ie-sitting on it I guess).
