Quoted from the Canadian Guide to Immunization (2006) re the chicken pox vaccine:

Unlike the United States, Canada does not currently have as a goal the
elimination of varicella, and NACI continues to recommend a single-dose
vaccine strategy for children (two doses for adults and adolescents > 13
years of age). The United States adopted a varicella elimination goal in
2005, initially recommending that children receive a second dose of varicella
vaccine to control outbreaks. In 2006, after varicella vaccine combined
with MMR (MMRV) was licensed in the United States, a routine two-dose
MMRV schedule was recommended for children. MMRV is currently not
available in Canada.

http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/publicat/cig-gci/index.html

Why is it the US seems so hell bent on getting rid of this disease when the neighbours to the North don't seem to be so bothered by it?

I just finished reading selective parts of the Canadian Immunization Guide for 2006 & it has LOTS of info in there for your FYI's.

Because parents keep missing WORK when their kids are sick and working is more important than parenting don't you know? Canada actually lets parents parent once in awhile.

This is true. A friend of mine recently vaxed her child for CP and one of her "valid" reasons was because she couldn't afford to miss work.

Here's the funniest part. Her dd ended up breaking out in CP FROM the vaccine a week later and she had to take a week off work.

I am more curious about how they think they can do it if noone else does? Do they expect the virus to apply for a US visa?

The pharmaceutical companies can make more money this way!

Though I admit that I am now understanding the fears of people who can't afford to miss work. I have missed a lot of work this winter because my kids or I have been sick. Every day of work that I miss means I may not be able to pay a bill. Of course vaccination doesn't guarantee I'll miss less work - but when you're poor and scared, you can easily buy into that argument.

For the record, my 2nd is completely unvaccinated, and I stopped vaccinating my first around 1 year old. I haven't bought into the fear I described. The solution for me is not to vaccinate, but to be smarter about money, and use positive thinking/manifesting/Law of Attraction to get myself in a reasonable situation where finances are concerned
