Over the last week my 9th month old sunshine has been oddly shaking her head (not in a way as to answer no - she doesn't know that). She will be crawling across the floor and begin tilting her head down and to the side and shaking her head and closing her eyes. This also happens while she is in her high chair, sitting in my lap, etc. not just crawling. She does not seem to be in any pain - but since it happens a couple of times in a hour and is something new I just can't figure out what she is doing.

Anybody have any ideas?

She's probably fascinated by the way it alters her perception of the world.
When I was little, I would spin around and around as fast as I could. I'm sure a lot of people did this when they were little. It's probably a form of this.... she's kind of "playing" with the different ways she can control her body to get a specific result.
It probably looks funny... I'll bet if you both do it together or if you make a little game out of it, she'd laugh along

Teething sometimes causes them to do some funny things. Is she teething? My son gave me a scare months ago when he began tilting his head to one side and raising his shoulder to meet that side of his face. I had no idea what he was doing or why he was doing it so frequently. I began to wonder if he had a nervous tic. It was the uncomfortable pressure in his ear due to teething that was causing him to do that.

Maybe she really is just discovering life with her eyes closed.

Try not to worry. For peace of mind you can call her ped. and tell him or her what is going on and ask questions. I know these things can be disconcerting.

peace.

My baby does that too, but he generally keeps his eyes open. I think it just feels funny and makes stuff look funny. At first I was afraid that he had an earache or something, but he does it all the time.
