Why oh Why can't I stop worrying

I'm such a big worry wart. DS2 6 months had a little check up with the health nurse. So according to the growth chart(he is 20 lbs and 27 inches long)He is too heavy for his height. Oh and his head is on the 40th percentile, last time his head was on the 50th percentile. So she tells me to take the growth chart in my doc and get here to look at it. What is she trying to say? Something is wrong with my ds and he is not growing properly? Alot of people are telling me don't listen to what she said all babies are different and he looks nice and proportioned to them. So now im stuck in between worrying and not worrying. ARG!

Sounds pretty normal to me. For some reason, some nurses and doctors think all babies should be perfectly proprtioned or something is wrong, and that's just bogus. All babies are different. It sounds to me like you have a healthy, big boy. My DS was about that height and weight at 6 months. It sounds to me like she was trying to say that the % for height and weight aren't matching up, which they almost never do. Chunky babies are going to usually be higher in the % in weight than height and slimmer babies are going to be higher in the % in height than weight. There's nothing wrong with that and it's ridiculus that the nurse told you it something that needs checked out.

I would not worry at all about his head growth. 10% is not that big of a change. You also have to account for human error during measuring. Unless there was a big jump, like from the top of the % to the bottom, or vice versa, there's nothing to worry about.

At 6 months my ds was 20 lbs and 27 1/2 inches. I don't remember his head circumference, but it was small compared to his weight/height. All the dr said was that probably indicates his body growth will slow down to eventually align more with his head. She was not concerned AT ALL. My guy just gained weight very quickly (yay, mama's milk!).

PLEASE don't worry! Those charts are ridiculous anyway. Your ds is just perfect.
DD is 20lbs 27in. She's also 6mo. Our pedi didn't even bat an eye. It really is completely normal.

nak
He's totally fine & normal - don't worry AT ALL!!

FWIW, many growth charts are based on formula fed babies. As long as he is developing in other areas I wouldn't worry (although this is easier said than done!)

Really? That's retarded. He is BF and I think a lot of moms BF now a days so they should change there charting system.
Somewhere I read this story (maybe in Sears?) about a doctor who was panicking about the size of a baby's head. He had consulted the charts and it just wasn't normal--what could it mean, the baby is out of proportion, they must do tests, it can't be good! And then the father walked in, and the doctor noticed the father was proportioned similarly to the baby. And the doctor had a laugh and realized it was all fine and was just genetics at work.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about those charts.

It's funny, DS1 had a big head, from his dad, not overly big like a pumpkin or anything LOL. My dad is bald and he has a small head, when DS2 and Papa are together they look kinda the same LOL. So thanks for pointing that out. I feel better now.
