OK, I just went back to work (babe is 10 mo...oh! and just started walking!)

Anyway, he is refusing my bm in a bottle or cup. I tasted it and it tastes BAD! It smells and tastes like spit up after it has been refrigerated - not after it has just been pumped.

Anyone know why this is? This didn't happen with my last babe, at least I don't think it did.

Thanks,
Jennifer

OOoo, Oooo, pick me!!
High Lipase (an enzyme that helps break down and hence absorb fat)

I have the same problem. So far the only sol'n I've come across is to scald your fresh milk BEFORE storing (i.e. bring it almost to a boil) then freeze quickly.

Here's a pretty good summary of the issue:

Does that sound like your situation??

check www.kellymom.com i think i remember reading something about some substance in BM that can cause this -- something like lactic acid or something. i doubt if that's it, but apparently some mamas have more than others. maybe it varies from time to time or after eating certain things?

: to the high lipase

I had this same situation with my first dc but not my second ~ so it can happen with one child and not the other. I did exactly what the pp mentioned about scalding my milk then freezing it and it seemed to do the trick. Unfortunately, I don't have any ideas about how to scald then immediately freeze your bm if you're pumping at work.

I'm going to be going to be going to school F/T...I plan on pumping throughout the day and just using it for the next day hoping it stays fresh enough without freezing for 24 hrs. Any that I have leftover or pump on a firday I'll just scald or make into yogurt (yes, I'm going to make boob-juice yogurt
) and store accordingly.

Even if you scald it a few hours after it's pumped I think you'll be alright.
