We're buying a Wii for the family.

Can anyone recommend games for our family?

It's 2 adults, dd who is 8 and dd who is almost 6. The girls like horses, singing, dress-up kinds of games, and dancing. I know next to nothing about Wii games.
I'd like to get something we can all play together, and something the girls will be able to enjoy on their own too.

Hmmm.... most of the girls I know that age don't like Mario Kart. I'd check Gardening Mama. There's one called Petz Horsez (I know, I know, the spelling!), although I don't have any personal experience with it. There are some character games -- Dora, Barbie, Littlest Pet Shop. There are a bunch called Disney Sing It.

Start browsing Amazon and reading reviews -- that'll give you lots of recommendations (or not!).
really? my 9 and 7 yr old LOVE mario kart and so do all their same aged friends (girls)

another game that our kids love is lego star wars and ghostbusters. ghostbusters is a little harder, but fun, and lego is just awesome for the whole family. they also have lego batman, idiana jones and lego harry potter coming out soon.

we tried the horse game, but they got bored with it really fast, they both complained that there was not enough action or interesting stuff happening.

our library checks out wii games for free-check to see if yours does-its a great way to try new games without paying almost 10$ just to rent

Your library has wii games! Cool! My kids love the sport games like Mario Olympics...which I got used at Blockbuster for 9.99.

Hands down, I'd vote for one of the Rock Band games if you want something the entire family will play together. Just pick whichever one has the most songs you like (you can look at the set lists online). There's Rock Band 1, Rock Band 2, Beatles Rock Band, and Lego Rock Band. There are some other singing games too, but I think Rock Band is the most versatile, especially since you can customize the characters so the girls could have fun picking out hair and clothes for their rock personae.

The Wii Sports that comes with the Wii is really fun, too, so don't feel any pressure to buy any games right away.
