Will ONLY nurse laying down...Help!

Hi there...
My beautiful three-month-old will only nurse when she is laying next to me in bed. I don't mind becasue I LOVE to lay with her but this is rather inconvenient when we are out somewhere...She just started this a few days ago...I was told by the laxtation consultant that I have an overactive letdown and know laying down relaxes her so I figure that and the fact that I think she is going through a growth spurt is the problem. Any suggestions? Also - have anyone else's babies had green poop when going through a growth spurt???

Get a good book and lie down?

Seriously, I would just go with it as much as possible. I think babies all have their preferences, and as much as I can I accomodate ~ I know of friends whose babies didn't like to nurse lying down, for instance. Not to say it will be like this forever, either ~ very likely a growth spurt and she wants to just be comfy and EAT!

Green poop can be due to a few things. DD#1 had this a lot, and in our experience it was due to a foremilk/hindmilk inbalance. We were lucky enough to be able to see Dr. Jack Newman in person and he was a tremendous help. He taught me about breast compression, and this saved our lives! Here's his article that covers it ~ Breast Compression

hang in there! You will find that rhythm that works for both of you soon enough

my little guy was this way as well. still prefers laying down- on top of me (at 10 mo. now) he has been this way for a long time. I had an overactive letdown as well, and problems with foremilk and hindmilk imbalance. So, as the pp suggested I just go with the flow, try to always feed him right before we leave and offer it very often when out as he will only nurse for a short period at one time- this is also due to his extreme distractability. Whenever possible I try to find places that I can at least somewhat accomodate him- a big chair in the side of a dressing room- I lean back and lay him on top of me. At other's homes I go to another room and borrow the bed or floor and lay with him. Sorry, no advice on changing the behavior- it is easier to change your expectations than them!

Great advice! My dd never had the green poop but wouldn't eat for more than 5 minutes on one side. She was super fussy/gassy. Breast compressions worked wonders for us (although the little stinker still makes me do them!).

MIne's like this, too. 90% of our nursing is in bed, once in a while here at the desk, or in the sling while we're out. I don't usually have a problem with overactive letdown. It seems to have more to do with being overtired. She wants to nurse and nap every time.
I've been trying to nurse her in the cradle position now but have been using the cross-cradle hold. It is adorable that she smiles when I am nursing her that way - I love to look at her too - but that is another reason we have been laying down...so she can concentrate. I also was wondering when they stop nursing as frequently...She is not nursing as much (it used to be every few hours) or for as long...Any thoughts??? :LOL
