Hi,

As someone as you will remember my dh works for the railrunner. We have a chance to move as the railrunner moves on to Santa Fe. We are wondering about Santa Fe. We like a rural area so can anyone tell us about the areas around Santa Fe to live. Also we are Christians and would like to raise ds in an area where there is a fair amount of Christians. We also like want an area with friendly people that will expect people easily and a city of little crime. Ds and I need a strong homeschooling community also. So do we fit in Santa Fe?

Santa Fe is pretty open minded and artsy. The thing to remember is housing is super expensive. I know several people who work in Santa Fe and live in farther south and commute so they can afford something.

I believe they have a good Hsing community.

I've been in Santa Fe for two years and it has really become home for us. As mentioned by the previous poster, Santa Fe is extremely open-minded, which I have felt creates a wonderful sense of inclusion. My family attends a very liberal christian church here, which we've enjoyed. Catholocism (eeks, don't know how to spell that) is very strong in this community. You are also very likely to meet people who worship fairies, colors, or anything else you can think of. I certainly think it is an advantage, but it may not be for everyone.

Housing costs are fairly significant when you take typical salaries into account. There are pockets of affordable housing (we live in one), just not right in the middle of the action. Surrounding rural areas seem to be increasing in cost of living as well, but I suspect you can still find some good deals out there.

Haven't experienced home schooling myself, but have heard it is a strong community.

I'd love to answer any other questions!

There are at least two main homeschooling groups in Santa Fe that have yahoo groups, and a couple of smaller groups that do not have an online presence. At least one of those started in a church, but I can't remember who what when or where. I'll have to ask a friend of mine. Email me and I can send you the info about the two email groups.
