Hi-

I'm just curious how folks with winter babies (11/02-3/02) are faring with EC. We're back on our normal track after a month of crazy activity. Liam had gone 6 weeks with no poopy diapers, then we were getting mess after mess. Now that all the guests have left and we're on solid ground, we're back to catching them. We had some pretty spectacular misses in the interim though. My favorite was in front of my inlaws when I thought he was signalling to go, so I rushed him to the potty only to find that he had already started. I held him over the BB to finish the job, but he slipped a bit and was not happy not to be in the normal secure hold. I had poo on my hands, his legs -yuck, but he was pooing in the BB, so I did not want to move him. It was about 30 seconds of utter anarchy with my inlaws laughing up a storm (they have a good sense of humor .

Oh dear!!

Well, I'm an EC failure. LOL! Ellie is in diapers and I just change her frequently. I catch 3 or so pees a day and she almost always poops in the potty. My problem is just that I can't seem to get her to signal, or I'm not in tune enough to catch the signaling she does, so I'm just using timing/intuition most of the time. When she wakes up, she nurses then sits on her baby bjorn potty and I guess she's just used to pooping then. If she and I could get better at signaling I'd try to do more, but for now this works for us.

We also miss most pees -doesn't bother me as long as I get the poos!! I seem to have better luck catching pees in the AM than as the day goes on . . .

Hi! I'm new here. I've been doing EC with my 7 1/2 month old dd since she was 2 months, and things are going great right now. Lindy is diaperless almost all the time now (including nighttime), and I think we just completed three days in a row with no accidents. One missed pee a day is pretty typical, but we're having more and more days with no misses at all. For a while there, I guess between five and six months, she started getting really distracted when I tried holding her over the toilet, and she'd often just squirm around and try to grab the toilet paper and other stuff she saw, and refuse to pee and then pee in her diaper soon afterwards. But then we got a BB potty, and she liked sitting on it, and we suddenly started catching a lot more pees. Now we're at the point where EC actually seems simpler than dealing with diapers. It's great to see the earlier months of extra work finally paying off. And I really like how EC has let be me so much more in tune with Lindy.

One thing that sometimes bothers me is that either Lindy doesn't do much to signal when she needs to go, or I'm really bad about picking up on her signals. Mostly I've just gotten a good sense of how often she needs to go (taking into account things like how much nursing she's been doing), and I take her to pee when I think she probably needs to. It's obviously working, but since peeing in the potty doesn't exactly seem to be something she's asking to do, I wonder what will happen when she's a little older. Once she's more mobile and independent, will she start heading for the potty on her own when she needs to go (which would be great), or will she just start resisting if I try to take her to it and sit her on it? Well, I guess I'll just have to keep working on reading her signals, and if she decides at some point that she'd rather not pee in the potty, I have to remember that this is mostly about meeting her needs, not mine.

Hi! we started late...~7 mo, so have only been doing this for about a month. i guess i average about half the pees and a bit more than that of the poos. we also do better in the morning. he spends a lot of time on his belly learning to crawl, and neither of us is good at anticipating those pees, so that's most of the misses. i miss a pee every third night or so, but otherwise do great at nights (after i figured out to nurse him over the toilet to not upset him while sleepy ) the amazing things: he has NEVER gone on me while in the sling and signals well there, so he has a good "no pee on mom" instinct! he poos almost every morning first thing in the toilet. this routine was not there when he was in cd...so obviously he has a stay clean instinct! he usually doesn't go in his car seat and waits till we get somewhere and i release his diaper to pee him out the car door. he really seems to understand my cuing sound. i'm truly awed by all this considering our late start and the fact i would have sworn before this that he pees and often pooed with NO warning! i never would have tried without this forum, so thank you all for inspiration! and Daffodil, you have convinced me to get a BB potty
