Hi,

I live in North Central Florida. Is there anything I can plant right now in the dead of winter? I am getting really antsy to start planting something and my sons loves gardening and he has been asking me why can't we garden yet mom? He has been so excited to garden that he has been picking up the acorns from the oak trees and bringing them to me to say that we could plant a tree. It has been in the 30s here for the past week...very unusual for Florida.

Thanks,

Check with your local cooperative extension office. They would have a good idea of what grows when in your area. I'm pretty sure you could start indoor seeds (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant) with some grow lights. My dd also likes to do experiments this time of year, like we'll take the seeds out of an apple that she ate to see if they will germinate. Or you could sprout an avocado and then probably plant it outdoors (we just got some fabulous avocoados from my uncle in Miami!)

Good luck!

I will check with my local co-op office and see what they recommend. Thank you for the suggestions.
