I have a fairly mainstream mama friend who is going to have a c-section on September 1. They already know it's a boy, and while her DH is adamant that he be circumcised, she doesn't really care.
I approached her and told her to tell me to shut up if I offended, but would she mind if I discussed an actual circumcision with her? She said no, and I just sent her a bunch of links (including the video) for her to look over and then show her DH.
I've already convinced her to cloth diaper and use a sling instead of a stroller...maybe, just maybe, I can win one for the Gipper here too?
I have no sons, and my brother is intact, but while my DD was enjoying her month long stay in the NICU, I was present one day when they circumcised one of the baby boys there. The sound echoing from that plastic bassinet were the most horrific things I had ever heard. The parents had to wait almost two months after their son's birth until he was strong enough to withstand the circumcision...that alone should have been a clue!! I vowed then and there that if I am ever lucky enough to have a boy, he will come home with his entire penis. All I did during the entire "procedure" was rock my DD and sob. I just wish new parents were better educated about the unnecessary nature of routine infant circumcision in more places. I heard the doctor ask the parents four times if they were sure they wanted to go through with it, and everytime mom sounded a little less sure. She finally had to leave the room.
