Good to hear that the deputy chicken hawk came to his senses, probably after someone reminded him that 34 journalists have been killed in Iraq since hostilities began. In case you missed it, here's what he is apologizing for:

"During a House Armed Services Committee hearing on Tuesday, Mr. Wolfowitz criticized what he described as a partial picture presented to America and the world on the mission to rebuild, stabilize and install new political institutions in Iraq, and he cast blame on the news media.

""Frankly, part of our problem is a lot of the press are afraid to travel very much, so they sit in Baghdad and they publish rumors," Mr. Wolfowitz said in his House testimony. "And rumors are plentiful.""

More:http://www.nytimes.com/2004/06/25/po...rint&position=

The fact that his pitiful comments came a day before Armed attacks swept Sunni Muslim areas of Iraq would be hilarious if it wasn't so deadly.

I believe he said what he wanted to say.

It's easy to issue a retraction, but once words are out there you can never actually get them to go away.

Have to :LOL at his claims w/how horrid the war coverage was BECAUSE of embedded reporters.

Thanks again RD.

An interesting deconstruction of the prattle that emits from Wolfie and other Pentagon suit types:

"Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz must have a surgically-implanted metal rod in his back that enables him to conduct lightning, as well as other things, away from the Pentagon and Bush administration. Whether telling Gen. Eric Shinseki that he was "wildly off the mark" in predicting it would take a lot of troops to pacify Iraq, or in saying last week that the U.S. press in Iraq were cowering in their hotels, he often seems like he's approaching the world from a completely different set of assumptions than the rest of us."

http://www.intel-dump.com/archives/a...tml#1088251677
