My youngest ds is just starting to bat at things with his hands. I took our our old playmat gym thing the other day and the colors just annoy me. I'd much rather have something less harsh on the eyes.

I was looking at this one by selecta, but I would rather something with a little darker wood or something that showed more grain. I searched on etsy to no avail. Are there any other companies that offer something simliar to the selecta one for that price or less? I'd love a handmade one from somewhere, even if I have to add the toys separately.

TIA

edited to add: I was also curious how long your little ones played with their gym similar to this (if they had one). I can't remember how long DS1 played with his mainstream one, but it wasn't as much as I had thought. DS2 is already 3 months, about how long will it last?

my soon to be 1yo has played with hers(the selecta one) from about 3 months til the present. the great things about the selecta one is that its also used to help them walk. she pushes that thing all over the play room. my 3 1/2 yo plays with it,too pretending its a playground with swings for her dollies

Thanks Nicole. You're convincing me to just go ahead and order it. I'm sure he's ready for it now. I was just curious if there was anything else out there more hand/homemade. I wish I had a good carpenter in my life. It would save me loads of money, lol.

I saw baby gyms at Ikea last time I was there. They were bright and colorful like all of the other Ikea kids' stuff.

My DS never had one. There wasn't a real reason in not getting it. We were just really broke and no one gave us one.
I think he played with the blinking plastic version at his daycare when he was little. But once he was mobile, nothing would keep him still.

We did have an exersaucer thing though, but that was for a bit older. He LOVED that thing!

Here's the Ikea one: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70108177

How timely that you posted this, my youngest started playing with his about a month or 2 ago and it's been a bit funny to me that he can pick up one side of it and lift it up and down (kind of the baby Bam Bam effect). I'm going to raise the play bar on it to see if he still does that.

This is the one we have that I found at a used toy store.. (just realized link doesn't go directly to the product it's called "Babyspielgerät, Joe")

Nicole, glad to hear that yours is still getting use nicely, my older boys have been taking it from the baby to use as a lawn mower

Marina, I had seen that very one on another site that no longer offered it and thought they said it was Kaloo. I've been looking for it because I think it's lovely! I wonder how much it is new and if it's available. A used one would be a great find!

We have the selecta one, and my DS was not that impressed with it. At first he would bat at it, but by 4 months or so he would grab both the rings and try to pull them towards his mouth, but since they are fixed he would end up looking like a baby gymnast pulling up on the rings
He was much happier with toys that he could manipulate (haba rattles, etc.)
