You can try Lori's necklaces (http://blessedbeads.pureperfection.net/) She uses brightly colored plastic beads for her necklaces but I know she does custom stuff too...If you had an idea for something with wooden beads, she would be happy to design something for you.

I hear you on the plastic, I don't like that either. Some makers use natural stone beads.

I have this one and it's never splintered, or anything like that... It's really durable (even though babies aren't supposed to chew on the necklaces anyhow, since a bead can come off in a freak accident...) But, this necklace is awesome! And heck, it's on clearance sale now!

LOL...we carry it in the diaper bag, and ds takes it out in church when he sees someone praying the rosary...he gets all proud that he has a necklace "just like the guy next to him". :LOL We never taught him that, but it's freakin' hilarious to see the look on people's faces when he brings his necklace over to them and holds it up to their rosary... :LOL
