any one use wooden teethers? I was about to get DD one made of maple but it says that there is a bees wax on the wood - is this safe for babies? I thought they were not to have honey till after 1 or 2 yo. I know they are not the same things, but I just wanted to make sure.

thanks!

We have wooden teethers, but DS hardly ever uses them. I've never really thought about the bee's wax. Probably you could google it and see.

Honey is considered unsafe because it can carry botulism, I can't say I know for a fact, but I am almost positive it is not an issue for beeswax.

We use the Haba teethers. My little guy loves them. The previous poster was right - with honey you need to worry about the Botulism spores. These wouldn't be present on a (bees) waxed wooden toy. Maybe if you were using comb right out of the hive, you'd need to worry (because it would have some honey on it) , but not after the processing of a toy.

My little guy really loves the Kringelring!
http://shop.nurturecenter.com/habatoys.html

My ds loves the Kringelring, too. HABA toys are very safe. Don't you worry.

We have a few Haba and some other wooden teethers. Ds loves them. That's all I'm getting for him, besides cloth.

I bought this one for my daughter, and she loves it! The butterfly comes off and is also safe to mouth.

I was browsing here and saw lots of Haba toys including teethers:

http://kidsurplus.com/

(look under baby toys or search Haba)

We also have a Kringelring fan here. DD's face lights up when she hears someone shake it! Then the shoves it in her mouth and gums it ferociously.

great! thanks!!! I am totally thinking of getting rid of anything not wooden or cloth...all the plastic and questionable materials are starting to multiply...why not spend $$$ and have a few great toys instead of spending $ and having a mountain of crappy toys...

although I get the rolling of the eyes from everyone who wants to just go to some huge toy store and buy my kids everything in sight because 'they need it'...who needs it?!?!?...

: I just don't seem to care what they think anymore...and it feels good!
