Would anyone like to give me a quick lesson about wool soakers? And what about fleece soakers? How does all of that work? We use lots of different kinds of AIO and pocket diapers and well as prefolds with thirsties covers. Lately I've been shopping on etsy and have seen all sorts of cool looking wool and fleece stuff. When it comes to wool, is a soaker and a cover the same thing? Does it go on over a prefold? Why would one choose a wool item over an AIO or something similar?

Sorry to sound like such a diapering ignoramus!

TIA!!!!

Wool is reuseable and it is a cover. Some people choose it because its breathable and completely natural.
Fleece is also breathable but not natural fiber. The care for fleece is also slightly easier. Fleece can be washed in your machine with your diapers.

Wool needs to be handwashed if its soiled or once a week or so with a gentle wool soap that readds lanolin.

You can generally find recycled wool soakers that are cheap if you want to give it a try without a big investment.

I never saw the point of having wool until last fall- I just didn't think that pul was breathable- this after using pul for 2 years. We still have some pul covers- but I also have a lot of wool that I greatly prefer. We never have leaks in wool- never. Also- I love longies and shorties- and that eliminates the need for pants or shorts. They are fun and cute and soft and my DC love wearing them! My kids are almost always in prefolds with snappies and they work great!

btw- I don't wash mine every week- I go a lot longer and they never stink- I do wash when they get looking nasty or get some poo on them....

Thanks for the info.

So the soakers go over a prefold? Would they also fit over a fitted?

I really like all of the different colors, and the thought of using something natural is very appealing.

I also loved the wool covers on ETSY and orderedone last week. It's adorable, but some of the wool is itchy. I've heard great things about Aristocrats and was wondering if the wool used is softer? The edges of the WAHM soaker that we got is soft, but the rest is really rough. Very cute, though!
