Wool Worry?

434 Views 12 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  tjbrock29
OK, am I being silly here. When DD goes down for naps, I haven't been putting her in soakers with the drawstring waist. I'm worried about them somehow strangling her. Am I being silly?

I don't think that is silly.

If it makes you feel better you could tuck the draw string in. It won't get the damp.

Not silly.

You can always thread it so it ties in the back. Then she can't play with it.
nope not silly. I think The Cushie Tushie has a warning about drawstrings when you buy wool from them.

My DD likes to play with the drawstrings. It freaks me out. She rarely naps anywhere I am not so I don't worry too much but if she is going to sleep in a different room than me, she goes coverless.

yup, we do coverless naps lately

For naps I tye the strings in a double knot. Ds can't undo them. I was worried about this too.

I too worried about that same thing
I too just doubled/sometimes tripled the strings so that she couldn't get them undone

When Moose was playing with his strings all the time I either rolled the waist down over them, or tucked them in.
I ALWAYS double knot a drawstring, and I either tuck it in or put it in the back if it is a toddler that won't leave it alone. You can always as the WAHM to secure the drawstring so it won't come out too, we offer that service to ANYONE buying from us, and yes a disclaimer is included. Or if you already own the wool for less than $1 you can buy a yarn needle and some yarn and just secure the drawstring in the soaker yourself, that way it can't pull out and therefore can't strangle baby!

Of course supervision is the best way to ensure your baby is safe, but double knotting and securing the string help too!

Don't think you are crazy that has crossed my mind at times because DS loves his drawstrings. I always make sure that I double knot them and make sure they are tight. I have restrung some of the ones that he always wears at night backwards so he can get to the drawstrings.
I think of that everytime I go to put the boys to bed. I usually don't use one with a drawstring all night because I'm paranoid about it. I, too, double knot the drawstrings...but for all night I use one without the drawstring (like an Aristocrat).

Thank you mamas!! Glad to know I'm not the only one! Lots of good ideas here! It didn't even cross my mind (only had one soaker with a tie) until I got soaker with a LOOOONG tie, then I started to worry!

You can also get soakers w/o the drawstring.

We've done coverless naps and now that we EC we've been dry a lot of times.

I double knot also. And when ds is down for a nap or night in his longies or shorties I'll snap his onesie over the top so he can't get to the strings anyway.
