I just have to give props to my local WIC office. We went in for re-cert this morning and the nutritionist was all smiles that we're still nursing and was very clear that if I wanted to wean they could help, but that it was wonderful that I didn't and to keep on as long as I wanted. She also admitted to nursing her youngest until he was 4 and that they were cosleeping at that age (and he still climbs in occasionally at 15
: ). The way she said it was like she was ashamed but I was quick to assure her
that dd would no doubt be nursing at 4, and that we def still cosleep.
When going over foods she went over the spiel on how too many people OVER use wcm and juice and I told her that wasn't a problem between nursing and dd's love affair with water.
: She was like awesome! No wonder she's so healthy- you're doing such an amazing job with her! When I left I noticed they still had their "bfing stars" board still up (moms who nursed at least 12 months- nearly full of polaroids!
) and asked if they were still doing pics. The lady giving me vouchers said yes, asked how old dd was and how long we had nursed. I looked her in the eye and said we still are. Oh the smile I got!
She said oh, that is so AWESOME! Let me get someone to take a picture to put up! I told her how wonderful that office was and how not all offices were so I wanted to let them know how appreciated it was. The lady who had done dd's height and weight was also all glowing smiles and praise on how it was great and no wonder dd was so healthy and doing so well.
I just LOVE my local WIC ladies. I wish they could train all those crappy WIC people in the US on how to handle bfing- there'd be no more complaints!
Oh, on a side-note, I did see one mom trying to feed her infant (probably 4 months or so) under a thick blanket.
: I wanted to go over and say something but the baby was screaming, her SO was right next to her and I doubted she would appreciate being disturbed.
