Looking for computer mamas! Have you or do you work in a computer science related field? Do you have a CS degree? Come join my tribe!

I have a BSCS and I worked as a developer then a program manager at a big software company until after I had my daughter. When she was about 9 months old, I decided to stay home with her. I'm looking ahead to going back to work in a few years and I'm worried about my experience becoming outdated.

I just thought it might be fun to link up with others mothers with careers in the same field.

I have a BS in Computer Engineering. I too work as a developer. I don't work with many other women, so it's nice to see/hear/read of others in my field. Unlike you though, I did go back to work after the having baby. My DH stays home with our girls though.

I really miss working honestly. I'm going crazy at home with these kids! I did go back after my maternity leave but when DD was about 9 months old I decided to quit. I just hated that my daughter was being raised by the daycare. It also did make our cross-country move easier, only DH had to find a job (he also is a computer person - a qa manager). But now I'm going crazy at home with my kids - its just so less intellectually stimulating than working was.

So I'm thinking more and more about getting back into the workforce, but with DH with a 90 minute commute I can't even conceive of how we'd manage the two (maybe three) kids in daycare and two jobs. So I'm currently trying to figure out a four year plan for going back to work when the youngest (hopefully already on the way) is old enough to go to montessori school full time.

Any chance your DH might like to take a turn as the stay at home parent? I've got a BSCS. I've worked as a developer in the past and am now working primarily as a service manager for a MovableType service and a Streaming Media service for the Educational Technologies department at a university. It's great being in EdTech because the gender balance is a lot more...well, balanced
than at a lot of places. Our first is due in February, and I will be going back to work after my maternity leave, but my partner will be home with the razz. I would love it if both of us could stay home, but I realize that's getting pretty greedy. I'm so grateful that we can get by on one income so that daycare won't be an issue; and that universities have such great sick leave and vacation packages!

Well, I don't see that happening, partially because he would be more frustrated than me, and partially because he makes more than I could (he did 2.5 years ago when we were working for the same company) and right now we can't afford a paycut, we are treading water as it is. My current plan is to get my MBA part time - I should be done around the time my kids are ready to be in school all day and then rather than being someone who hasn't worked for 6 years, I'll be a new MBA graduate with a BSCS and industry experience. At least we can hope

ETC - we worked for the same COMPANY, not family! Or were we programmers for the mob?

Exactly - I need something that is non-kids that I can accomplish and doesn't get undone right after I do it. However, we are planning baby #3, so I'm thinking it probably won't work to start in January and have a newborn during the final
So I'm thinking September 2007.
