I'm new to cloth diapering--actually haven't even started yet. I've bought a bunch of different cloth diapers and am waiting for them to come. Today I decided I didn't want to wait and tried the prefolds I have from Walmart (you know, the cheap kind). My sons bum got so red after just one change.
He does have diarrhea, so I'm sure that makes it worse, but now I'm just so worried that he won't do well with cloth diapers, and I've just ordered a bunch.

I haven't had any experience with the prefolds from Walmart, but I do believe that fleece inbetween baby and any diaper will help keep baby dry and rash free. Depending on what you ordered, I would say that they would be more absorbant than what you are using now, which is a start. Also try to make sure that you are changing often and for now leave him with no diaper as often as possible until your new diapers get here. Good Luck, I don't have that much experience with rashes here, but know that it's very hard to keep them away with any diaper during bouts of diarrhea.

My first thought is did you wash your dipes you got several times first? They need to be broken in and that would need at least 2-4 HOT washes. Second- most babies dont have reactions to cloth itself it is either the build up on dipes, having baby in dipe to long or they are allergic to something in the dipe- some babies cant use fleece or some cant use hemp. My daughter was getting a small rash that she has had for about 4 days and then I decided to wash my dipes in calgon and WOW the next diaper change the rash was GONE It was just build up. What type of dipes did you order? Also my DD but is always a healthy pink not the white sposie butt my niece has- I think it is because the cloth doesnt suck the moisture away form the skin leaving it dry and white- so you may not be used to the pink butt- also if he is having bad poopies it says soft with cloth so you need to get it right away where as sposies tend to dry it out- you will notice that poop will be a lot eaiser to wipe off becasue it is still moist- it will not get crusty on the babies bum.

2 Unbleached Chinese Prefolds
A One-Size diaper from Dingleberryz
A cover from Dingleberryz
A Bumkins AIO
A One Size Wonder from Luke's Drawers
A Snug to Fit Supreme from Katie's Kisses

Any opinions on these? Are they good ones?
