I'm 6 weeks pp and I got my period back. DD still is having lots of wet diapers and seems fine but she's only had one dirty diaper today instead of her usual 3-4. She's also been nursing a lot more than usual this afternoon/evening, and I'm pretty sore, which is unusual for me. My big thing though is that I'm not leaking. Usually I leak like crazy, all day and today, there's nothing. nursing pads are completely dry; usually I have to change at least once per hour. She looks like she's drinking from her swallowing motions, but I'm not sure how much she's getting. I can't really express any milk but I never really can too much, and I'm too sore right now to experiment too much.

Last time I had supply issues and my milk disappeared completely overnight, but this time I've had too much if anything. If I let her nurse can she bring the supply up? How do I even know if I'm stabilizing the supply or drying up? DD's little (under 7 lbs still) so I want to make sure she doesn't fall behind. When should I start worrying? I don't want to wait until fontanels start sinking.

ETA: Here is a video of her nursing... http://s269.photobucket.com/albums/j...ictures138.flv I think she's doing the swallow pause, but I'm not 100% sure?

When my cycles came back (kids were 2 and 3 mos old), the kids just nursed extra and within a couple cycles, the effects of my hormones on my milk supply seemed less. She probably is getting less milk today, but within a couple days it will bounce back, and you may notice a jump in supply around the time you ovulate. I'd say in 4 or 5 days you should be back to where you were beforehand (unless you hit a growth spurt around then--there's a 6-week growth spurt as well, and that could make it a bit more difficult to figure out what's happening).

It can be confusing when it happens, but this seems really typical (wish I'd known that with my first, would've saved me some worrying).

I'm on my second period (1st one came at 3months) and my supply level drops, too. It's because of the estrogen. I take Fenugreek capsules around that time to boost supply.

I got mine 4 months pp and definitely noticed a drop in supply. I added calcium/magnesium to my daily vitamin regime (1200mg max daily). I still notice a little dip in supply each month but I am able to pump enough for DS.
