Hi all, I need your opinion on some things quickly.
I am a terribly picky on-line shopper and find that I will just not buy something if it is too hard. I hardly ever can shop at those WAHM sites that have numerous items because it is so hard for me to navigate around.
So, being slightly computer illiterate and having no idea how to set up a shopping cart, (sure I could learn though) I have been tempted to have a page that says something like: each shirt is 15$ plus 2.00 shipping, paypal me the total at ............ and include in the notes section which shirt(s) you want.
This is sort of my way of being lazy about everything because I have learned so much in the past few weeks: photoshop, web design, screen printing, etc. I just hardly think I can learn one more thing.
So while you may be tempted to encourage me to learn the shopping cart thing, I would also love feedback on the above idea.
THanks

IMO since they are paypaling you anyhow you may as well set up a paypal shopping cart. If I am shopping and have to email my order chances are high that I will look elsewhere. Paypal shopping carts are very easy to set up.

If I were you I'd use the Paypal shopping cart. If you want really simple have only 1 button option to push. It can have a drop down window of the colors. I also hate scrolling throw several pages and like to keep things simple. I listed all my prodocts on one page and simply used the drop down window for choices and Paypal automatically tells me which they chose. The HTML is super easy to add to your page as well, Paypal provides all of that. BUT in order to use paypal cart I think you need to have a business account which helps anyways so you can accept credit cards. Let me know if I can be of any help, I have a bit of experience with Paypal. You can check out www.thebabyspace.net/order for what I'm talking about. Goodluck!

Honestly, emailing an order to someone is way more work for me than adding it to a cart. So, no, I wouldn't shop there. One exception though... if I had already tried your product and really liked it, then I would buy more that way. But, as a first time customer, I wouldn't buy.

I totally agree. Think of it this way, as "lazy" as you are your customer is going to be 10 times "lazier". Why make them do the work you're not willing to do?

I have a manufacture that I buy from, that is an absolute pain to do business with. No web-site, no PayPal, call-in credit cards with a 2 hr time difference, only email orders or mail orders, they only pick up the mail on certain days, they are in a different country, etc. This is a great item for my store, and they are plesant to work with...but not very convenient to do business with.

As a consumer, there is no way I would order from a site without a shopping cart. Not having a shopping cart seems very unprofessional to me, and I'd wonder how serious the business owner is about her business. If she's not willing to put together a decent website, what are the chances that I'll get what I order in a timely manner (if at all)??

Not trying to be harsh, but that's what I think when I see WAHM sites that don't have a shopping cart. In general, you want to make it as easy as possible for people to buy things from you.

Thanks for being honest. I feel the same way, it is weird that I would even considder it. I am just so ancy to get up and running but I know that I should put in the extra effort to make everything easy.
I even hate it when I don't get confirmation e-mails.
My only experience with an on-line wahm store where several moms sold together, the boutique I think, was awful. I ordered two diapers, didn't hear anything for 7 days, on day 8 I contacted them only to find out that one of my diapers was sold and the other was ruined by her kid (understandable but come on, let me know so I can get some covers elsewhere, my guy is growing fast and when I order dipes I need them!).
diaper-addict-jen advised me of a great place where I can set up shop and have great shopping carts and service.
And even though you were just making a point I have to say that I am a fast shipper but can understand where you would have to wonder!
Thanks again.
