okay if I have a girl I have a few names I love Elizabeth, Emily and I really like Mary! Buuuuut with Mary my Ds's name is Joseph okay would that be bad??? or weird (I am not even sure if Dp is on board with that name he does like Emily and is okay with Elizabeth <---- absolute favorite! but I am not sure about how he feels about Mary)

So would Mary and Joseph be to weird?

Well, I usually hear the biblical Mary and Joseph referred to as "Mary and Joseph," but I usually say my kids' names in their birth order, so if yours were mine I would always say "Joseph and Mary." That wouldn't so much make me think of the Mary and Joseph. Do you ever call your Joseph "Joe"?

Are you set on the name Mary, or would a variation on it be just as pretty to you but lessen the weirdness you're feeling -- like Marianne, or Miriam, or Mary ___ (Jane, Sue, Eve, -- oh, Marieve is a pretty name that works well in English)? I was at a baby name site recently that gave similar names, or names that had parts of your chosen name in it, etc. Like this.
It might be a little... strange since they were married. Like naming a brother and sister Romeo and Juliet. But I agree with Brison - if your DS goes by Joey or Joe, or if your DD was called by one of the (many!) varients of Mary (or even if Mary was her middle name!) it wouldn't be weird at all.
Yeah, I think that might be a little weird. Especially when they get older - I can imagine there would probably be some teasing about their names.

That is what I was thinking But I love the name! But I am very nutty about biblical names I love them (I love most of the unusual names but would not use them for my children)

Brisen that site was really cool put it in my faves!

Kelmendi he goes by all of the variations of his name mostly Joe and Joseph

I was so set on Elizabeth (and tring it get Dp on board with it ) and then all of a sudden Mary popped in my head and it is just stuck there!

Also they will be over five years apart so that is why I am thinking there may not be much teaseing??? or is that just wishful thinking

What about calling the baby Mary Elizabeth as her day-to-day name? It would be long, but really pretty.
My mother's name is Mary, and her brother is named Joseph! They are the first born of each gender. I always thought it was so cute!

that is good to know! see Ds will be almost a little over 5 1/2 when this one is born so they will not have friends in common as if they were a few years apart. So that is why I thought maybe it would be okay I am still on the fence about it and I would not tell anyone until hafter as to not hear it if I do decide to go with Mary! thanks mama's

What abut Marie? It's just like Mary. Or have you considered Bethany since you like biblical names? I like them, too. Our boy's middle names are James, Joshua, and Jude. And if we have anther lil boy, Jeremiah.

I knew a Bethany and you know how sometimes when you didn't like those people they leave that stamp on the name??? Well that is them I do like the name Bethany but I picture that girl every time I hear it
and just not a fan of Marie. I looked at a site with Biblical names on it and I just did not get the click like I have with the name Mary and Elizabeth I may just need to sell Dp on Elizabeth also this baby will have a family memebers name for thier middle name so I cannot do it for a middle name. I may change my mind in a few weeks but I am not to sure.

Ohh and Jeremiah WONDERFUL name I even like it for a first name you could do Jeremy for short

DDC crashing to say that my (twin) brother and sister are named Joseph and Mary. When they were born, and my mom named them, she didn't even think about it. And as far as I know, no one ever made fun of them, everyone I knew that found out either didn't care or thought it was really cool.
My grandmother is Marie and her brother is Joseph. As far as I know they never got teased, but they grew up in the 30s in a heavily Catholic community so that might be a bit different...
But if your kids are that far apart in age they won't be close enough in school to have their peers teasing them. Plus most kids these days are pretty ignorant of even basic biblical references.
I like the Mary plus Second Name idea.
