ds is almost a year old. He has a cold, very runny nose, and he's been teething hard the last week or so-very drooly boy! We spent most of last night awake, with him screaming. Poor kid is in so much pain. I know it'll pass but should I call hte doctor you think? We have a friend a couple months older than him, and they went through something very similar a few months back, it was molars which I've heard are terrible. I'm just not wanting to pass it off as teething if it's an ear infection. he's never had one. With this cold and one a few weeks ago he's had lots of extra fluid in his head, y/k? I've had very little sleep and lots of stress so I hope this is coherant. What do you think? Is this normal, to have a bad bout with teething around this age? Would you call the doctor just to rule other things out, or wait it out some more?

Does he have a fever? If he does not have a fever I'd wait at least a few more hours before calling and see if he falls asleep. If he has a fever I'd call now. I hope he feels better soon!! Elle is getting 2 teeth right now and it's no fun!
Nope, no fever. He's actually napping now- he managed to nurse long enough to let himself crash. Poor thing is so exhausted! Poor mama is too! So I'll wait it out and see how things go when he wakes up. Keep your fingers crossed it's not too soon! He needs to rest, especially with the cold too. I'm gonna go get another cup of coffee something tells me to expect a long day. Dh won't be much help, he was up a lot with us and is at work now, also sick. Oy.
Thanks Amy.

If it were me, I would take him just to have a check in his ears. Its really your call. Personally, I adore our pediatrician and I like the reasurance. If you go and its not an ear infection, that is good info for you to have. You will be less stressed if you know for sure it is teething. I hate the not knowing.

to you mama!!
If it were me, I'd give him some motrin, Hyland's teething tablets, and hyland's earache drops. If that didn't help, then I'd call the doctor.

If you had tooth pain/earache, would you take motrin/ibuprophen? If so, then why shouldn't the baby? I personally prefer not to give it for fever, but pain is a different issue.

yeah we've been using the teething tabs like crazy-the earache ones we don't have (never needed them before so didn't thinkl to have them on hand) . last night I gave him a pain reliever w/cold meds, it eased the stuffiness a little so he could breathe easier which I know makes it so much easier to rest..but he's up now and still very uncomfortable so I'm going to call. I don't want to chalk it up to tooth pain and miss something else that needs treating or to be dealt with differently. He's also pretty farty-post-nasal drip and all. Poor kid.

Well we went to the doc this afternoon, no ear infections and just a very mild fever(99). So it's just the cold/teething, keep an eye on him(duh), blah blah. I feel a bit silly taking him in for what turns out to be 'no reason' but feel a lot better knowing there's not more going on than I thought. And he seems to be feeling better this afternoon than this morning so cross your fingers I get a good night sleep tonight! Or at least better. Like, you know, ANY sleep :LOL
Thanks everyone.
