Firstly, I’ve got to say, this question could equally be rephrased as ‘Should kids read books/watch films/read comics/play video games…’ and so on. ‘Anime’ is not a genre, so to speak, it’s a media form, just like any of the things listed above. Within anime/manga, there are as many different genres as there are for books and films. (Science fiction, romance, comedy…) Likewise, there are anime series produced for different aged audiences: children, teens, and adults.

Just make sure he doesn't watch anime 18+, then everything will be fine.
Nowadays, a huge number of different anime are released. These are mainly titles from 12 episodes. They are great for distraction. These are mostly short stories from the character's life. It often turns out that the main character is a god or a demon, or just a very strong dude. I think this is a great option to while away your time. Of course, there are such works of art as Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Fairy Tail and other huge anime, but they have a huge meaning that not every child can understand. What voice do you usually watch anime in? I often watch anime dubbed in English as I don't know Japanese :(

It depends on anime and on your kids. You can choose anime according to your children's age. We also like anime. When our son (he is 5) wants to watch them with us, we look through anime streaming sites and find family-friendly ones. Among those we have already watched together, I can name Doraemon, Anpanman, My Neighbor Totoro, Naruto, Crayon Shin-chan, Captain Tsubasa, Ponyo. Like any other genre, anime can be good or bad, so I don't see the difference between choosing anime or cartoons.
