• No, I'd worry that the other kids would tease him/her by calling him/her Lenin-ade

 • Wasn't Lenin a Russian author or philosopher or something? Seems like an okay name.

 • It's an alternate spelling on Lennon, right? After the Beatle? Seems like a fine name.

No.

I once dated a guy whose middle name was Adolf. I didn't think that was the greatest choice on the part of his parents either.

Sorry, I agree, this is one of those names that's ruined. Can't overlook some associations - lacks some respect to those who suffered.

I can hear the nice ring to the name otherwise, though, it's too bad.

I like your funny poll though. :)

No, not as spelled. You don't like Lennon? I think Lennon is a gorgeous name. Lenin...not so much.

It's better than naming a child Stalin, but I wouldn't do it.

Nope. Something about tens of thousands of dead dissidents would really turn me off from the name. Not as bad as naming a kid Pol Pot, but still not cool. When I was thinking of using the name Cyrus, I did a little research to make sure Cyrus the Great wasn't an evil dictator.

and .... people dont discriminate that much if they see the nationality of the person or if the person talks with an accent. i happen to know 2 immigrant Lenins and they have not faced any teasing or namecalling. they came while in elementary and middle school.

Slightly OT: how come Hitler ruined Adolf, but Lenin managed not to ruin Vladimir?

The name doesn't do a thing for me, I've never heard it used as a first name and it would never occur to me to consider it as one.

I think it must be because of the popularity of radio during WWII. People just heard his name a whole lot and that was that. Folks weren't listening to up-to-the-minute-updates in 1917. It probably also has a bit to do with the fact that no one else was really involved in the Russian Revolution. You're right, though - I certainly don't think "Lenin" when I hear "Vlad!"

That's a good point! Though the fact that I think of Dracula when you say "Vlad" might disprove the theory about media

No, I wouldn't. It immediately makes me think of bed sheets and then I move to thinking about the Beatles. That said, it's not the WORST name I've ever come across and there are far worse associations than bed sheets. :)
