So today is Easter. We picked up DH's Grandma from the nursing home to take her to his parent's for Easter Sunday lunch. It was a big struggle getting her into the car, as she is now confined to a wheelchair.

We get going, and DS starts SCREAMING. WHALING. CRYING SO HARD.
He was terrified of Grandma. We sang, we told him it was ok, DH reached his hand back and tried to soothe him. He would have none of it. He screamed the whole way to my IL's.. about 30 minutes.
At one point we pulled off the interstate and I got out of the car and calmed him down.. as soon as we got going again the screaming started again.

To make it worse, Grandma was sitting there saying "oh, he's scared of grandma" and laughing about it, and would not leave him alone! she kept trying to play with him!
:

I was a total wreck... and there was nothing I could do. We couldn't switch places in the car, the whole ride was interstate and we'd have to get her wheelchair out of the trunk, load her on it, take her around to the front passenger seat on the side of the busy interstate....

I guess I'm posting this because for one.. I feel like a horrible mother and I need some hugs. And I am wondering if this is normal for a 7 month old to be that scared of someone he has been around before (only 4-5 times) even if mama and daddy are there too?

I am so sorry you had such rough day!

If it is any consolation at all, we went through the same thing with our first ds from about birth to 18 months. He was and can still be a little slow to warm up. At 3 and a half he is just now comfortable around my grandmother. And I totally understand the mocking and laughing thing and I feel your pain, my grandmother does this to. It is so hard because on one hand you know your grandmother doesn't mean to make it worse but it just makes it that much more stressful! Our ds is very well adjusted and even with a more introverted personality is incredibly friendly and fun to be around. It gets so much better! I would just chalk it up to a bad day.
Hope your week gets better!!!
