I was talking to my mom today and she starts telling me about a woman she met at a party on the weekend. She had a son, about 5 days older than my DS so she was all granny like and talking with her, asking about her baby etc.

She gave up BF about 2 months in because she didn't like it, so her son is FF and they've started him on rice cereal just because (he's 4.5 mos old). She doesn't use CDs because they're gross. Baby's been sleeping in his own room in a crib since day one. She had a sling but never used it because "who wants the baby with you ALL the time". But she did tell my mom about all the different toys and gadgets etc she has...

My mom's telling me all this and then says that she just felt so SAD for the baby. She was picturing him crying alone in a room, forming a bond to all these toys instead of to his mother and eating formula filled with who knows what sort of chemicals simply because she didnt' feel like BFing...

And I just thought... WOW! My mom's really on board with all the AP stuff. She was skeptical about how I was doing things at first (especially co-sleeping) but hearing her talk I realized that she really does believe in how DH & I are raising DS and it felt really good

That's so nice that your mom gets it My mom loves telling people that DS wears cloth diapers and woollies and he sleeps with us and is worn in a wrap and he is "the happiest baby ever"

My Mom is a recent homebirth convert, she's still shady on our other crazy hippy dippy practices though

That is so great to hear!!! My dad and sister are the same way (my dear mom passed away a couple of years ago ). They are so quick to discuss the AP way with everyone they come across. To make matters even more amusing, my DH and dad will start discussing the virtues of cloth diapering with other people! When other family members are on board, we are able to get so much support in BF'ing, CD'ing, co-sleeping, etc. You know that you can have a supportive family member watch over your LO(s) in the manner you believe is best. And, come holidays, you know that you may receive a gift certificate to your favorite cloth diapering shop !

My mom and my inlaws are too!! Its so awesome, my FIL was telling all his Vietnam buddies about how awesome it was. My grandpa when I was visiting would be telling random strangers how my youngest is a "boob boy" look how healthy he is! It was pretty funny!
