Yeah Heidi Klum!

I was watching "Celebrity Babies" on the E! channel yesterday (we have Tivo, which makes suggestions for you, and it seems to tape me everything that's remotely baby-related, go figure).

They were talking about the recent celebrity births (Courteney Cox, Debra Messing, et al) and one segment was about getting back into shape after having a baby. They said how celebrities can have personal trainers and special diets, but there's also another "weight-loss secret".

Cut to Heidi Klum (supermodel) saying, "Breastfeeding!" She goes on to say how not only is it the best thing for baby to eat, but it's also healthiest for mom and a great way to get your body to go back to normal post-pregnancy.

I wanted to believe that they'd say it, but I guess I was still pretty pleasantly surprised when they did. Yay for them!

(Hope she's managed to put some seeds of thought in the brains of a few mommies-to-be...)

While I am very glad that Heidi is promoting BFing
She is also working out with her personal trainer for 60 minutes 5 times a week and he has her on a 1700-2000 calorie diet!

I was glad to see her say "I'm not focused on how I look. The baby is my priority."

In other celeb news I saw an interview with Gweneth where she remarked that all of her brain cells were coming out in her breastmilk.

You mean we're all not doing this??? Oh geez, I didn't mean to make everyone feel bad. Whoops, gotta go, my trainer's here!

I saw this article, I think. Gwyneth was mentioned but the actual quote was from Debra Messing.

With all these celeb births recently I was so hoping breastfeeding would be mentioned a bunch.

I'm glad to hear them plug breastfeeding. The more positive press the better.

The thing that bugs me about so much of the press on these new celebrity Moms is that is seems so focused on how fast they can lose that baby weight. I'm sure we'll be hearing soon how Julia Roberts birthed her twins and after 26 hours of rigorous labor got out of bed and did 3 hours of Pilates with her trainer to get her tummy back in shape.

I read an article in Vogue about Kate Hudson and the whole article talked about how she gained 60lbs <gasp>, but she's already lost 40 and has 20 to go before shooting her next movie.
In the photo shoot in the magazine she looked amazing. I have no idea where she's hiding that extra 20lbs, but I sure as hell didn't see it.

Yeah, that article kind of bothered me (just read it at the bookstore a couple of days ago). It mentioned several times that at the time of the interview she was 10 weeks postpartum.

And she talked a lot about how it couldn't be all about the baby after the baby is born, that they needed to take time for themselves, and keep up their sex life, and how she would be taking a vacation with her dh sans baby by a year. It also focused a lot on her weight, and admiring quotes from her dh that she was getting so skinny again.
She was *ten weeks* pp. Sheesh.

Although, maybe a lot of women are like that at 25 after having a baby. I started a bit later, so I wouldn't know.

I had my first at 24. At 10 weeks pp I still carried all my baby weight and I would be lucky if I got a shower. I was definately not looking like a cover girl!

I had my first at barely 21 years old. And I was just like that. I had lost all the baby weight by a few months postpartum. Now with #2, and I'm 24, I like to think that I've surrendered myself to motherhood. I read in Womanly Art of BFing that the average nursing mom is in her 30's.
Actually, I had my first when I was 20 and my second at 22.

I weigh 146. I was originally 120.

This weight isn't coming off. Waaaaah.
Yay!~ I was watching David Letterman one night and he had Kelly Ripa on and he made a comment about her figure (good) and she said breastfeeding really helps get your weight down.

:LOL I wish!!!!! I'm 25, I gained 75 lbs and I'm still trying to lose the last 20 at 7.5 months PP.

The focus on "getting back to normal" is just another example of how woman are expected to be this unattainable image of "perfection". I cannot tell you how much I hate Vogue. I won't even pick it up to read in the grocery line. Such a disgustingly shallow magazine. Sorry, OT rant from someone living with an ED.

Sad that these woman are not allowed to enjoy the bliss of PP, not worrying about anything except caring for their little ones. I would love to have been rich and have someone to do all my laundry and cooking, etc so that I could have just focused on taking care of my baby.

But wonderful that breastfeeding is getting so much press!

Yay for all of the good breastfeeding stuff in the media!

LMAO...I'm 23, gained 42 lbs and am still 20 lbs above my pre-pg weight... So yeah, age and breastfeeding just aren't getting that weight off... LOL!
