I think dh and I might both have the beginnings of yeast infections. Is there anyway to get rid of them? I looked at the store today and the cheapest brand was $10 for a one dose treatment. So for both of us would be $20.
: So, any alternatives?

The OTC stuff will kill the yeast topically but won't deal with the underlying issue- the imbalance of good bacteria/bad bacteria/yeast in your body.

There is a supplement by Nutrition Now, Yeast Defense that is great. It has the main herbal ingredients and some acidopholus (good bacteria) but you may need to take it for a month or so to really get to the root of the problem. I'd also recommend taking additional acidopholus.

It's imperative that you stay away from sugar, white flour and alcohol. All things that feed the yeast. You have to starve it out and kill it!

some things that should help:
probiotics/acidophilus
grapefruit seed extract
cutting sugar, dairy, and wheat from your diet

do a search for "thrush" in the breastfeeding forums, and you should find tons of helpful information.

I thought of this. I have some genetian violet from when I had thrush on my nipple a while back. But I didn't know if I could use it in my vagina and if dh could use it on his penis. Didn't know if *everything* would be okay afterwards and if it would work.

You can put gv on the babies tongue so.....It's a drying agent. But it stains very very badly and you need to put vasaline where you don;t want it to go, and did I say it was very messy......

pb8 is a very good acidopholis that doesn't mandate being refigerated. (but prob wouldn't hurt)

Keep very clean and dry! Yeast feeds off of sugar and likes warm dark places. Only wear cottons (loose).]

There are lots of good yeast threads right now it seems to be a big prob. I've been battling thrush for some time now and the LS said that there are some resilliant strains going on.

good luck
