oh man, someone please help! my ds, almost 5 mos. is definitely teething now, and had been clamping down with his gums on my nipple which really hurts. I try to be calm and sign "no" and say "Aiden, no bite" but obviously, he doesn't understand. anyway, he does respond to the hylands tablets, but not for too long, this usually happens partway through a nursing session, and most always when he is overtired and kind of resisting sleep a little....
I know that it is not the end of the world, and will certainly not make me give up on bf'ing, but maybe someone else has some ideas.... 'cause youch it hurts!
tia,

He can't bite or chew while actively nursing, because his tongue would be in the way. Watch him very closely, and remove him from the breast when you see him either switch his mouth position or get that look in his eyes. Then try to latch him on again, properly. If he doesn't latch on properly, offer him something to chew on.
