Yes, sometimes they are still pretty cute!

Everyone knows how cute babies and toddlers are...it's been a pleasant surprise to find out my son still has some pretty cute moments at age 12!

-He is taking a Hip Hop dance class. You want cute? Watch a classroom full of 10-12 years, looking so serious, trying to follow their teacher's lead to "Shake it, Sh-Sh-Shake it" by Outkast!

-My son has recently decided he wants to be a farmer when he grows up. The other day he said to me, "Mom, when I have my farm, I'm going to buy a sling so I can wear my baby while I'm doing the chores on the farm."

It's nice to remember that inspite of a recent habit of eye-rolling, he can be so darn cute. What cute things have your pre-teen/teens done?

That's so sweet. My bil is 13, the size of a full grown man (close to 6 feet, probably 180 pounds!) and he sometimes forgets to be surly and rude. It's very sweet. We bought ds some Chuck Taylor high tops and bil about peed himself because he has the same shoes as his nephew. He was walking around telling everyone they matched and was so excited. It almost makes up for him telling ds to spit and hit people in the "balls".

DD and I really like Neopets (which they have at McDonald's right now). She traded her friend some Neopet cards for a little star shaped one. She knows how much I love stars so she gave it to me. I told her that since she traded her much loved Neopet cards for it she should keep it but she insisted it was for me. She's such a sweetie.
my dd just came back from a week long church mission trip with the teen ministry. First thing she did when she was dropped off back home was run into my arms and say "oh mommy..i missed you so much. I even cried one night I was missing you so much." ok...that was followed by "the food was awful what are we having for dinner tonight, lol, but it was still really sweet to hear that she missed me .. She's 14 1/2.
I love reading these!

My son's baby/toddler/young child years were just chock full of cute moments (like all kids!) But the cute moments that have come recently just make such an impression on me. I couldn't possibly remember all his cute moments from toddlerhood but I'll never forget his dance class or the sling comment.

You know what? Maybe it's not him, maybe it's just that I'm not longer a sleep-deprived mother of a very young child!

Very sweet
I'm trying to picture my 12yr old ds attempting to hip-hop dance

I find the moments that touch me the most is when he's spending time with his little brother and sister and being incredibly sweet and patient with them. He's on the cusp of puberty so I feel like we're so close to losing him to girls/friends/coolness, etc.. I know we won't actually "lose him" but I'm sure things are going to change as he spreads his wings and gets ready to fly.

Oh, and Damian has worn Caitlin in the sling a few times and that just makes my heart melt

I love that he's taking Hip Hop Dance class! I can picture it in my head what my son would be like and I giggled.

The one thing that makes me giggle every time and think is so cute is when my son says to me "You rock mom!" He still tells me he loves me all the time, he'll be 10 soon, however, the You rock mom seems to fit his personality more lately and I love it when he says it to me.

My 12 yr old DD was asked to get the A.1. steak sauce from the fridge. She said to my DH, "Dad, I always thought that label said AL steak sauce" (as in a person's name) LOL
We all had a good chuckle over that, including my DD.
Was a cute moment, and the look on her face, was the cutest! :LOL
We can't just let this thread die!

I was diagnosed with asthma last year and I've been trying suppliments and other things in order to heal, in the hopes that I won't need the inhaler. So my 13 y/o (who usually has his head in Legos or friends or video games) recently said to me, "It's great that you haven't needed your inhaler lately, mom." It came as a surprise to me and I even said to him that I didn't think he paid attention to things like that. He tells me, "Of course I do, Mom, I want you to be better."

Then, last night, my dd (almost 10) was watching a home-improvement show on tv and a very pregnant woman was on. She asked me if I'd feel better if she changed the channel (I had a m/c a few months ago.) I was so touched that she was thinking of my feelings.

I guess because I also have a 4 y/o who is basically in that "the world revolves around me" stage, the contrast of having kids who are considerate on that level is just so sweet.

Beautiful! I am tickled every day by the cuteness of my 13yo. He especially loves to dance like a spaz for his baby brother, who just laughs and laughs.

I want to share too

The other day my son came and sat with me on the couch as I was taking a break and flipping channels. He snuggled close to me so that his head was right under my neck and I swear when he does that when I look down at his face it looks the same as it did when he was a little guy...anyway...I paused on the Baby Story and I told Andrew, lets see if this baby is bigger than you were when I had you..it turned out that Andrew was way bigger than the baby on tv. He looked up at me then and said, "mom, when I'm a PGA golfer I'm going to take care of you". I just thought that was the sweetest thing-my 12 year old snuggling with me and promising me that he wants to care for me someday. It made me heart melt.
As he walked off from this moment, he belched really loudly and laughed as I looked on in disgust/amusement.
Ah yes, 12 year old boys are something.

My daughter, age 11, *still* opens the door to the house from the garage whenever I pull in from being away, and she jumps up and down like she is so happy to see me again. She's been doing this, in the same doorway, since she was able to stand up. It makes me feel good to know she cares enough to listen for me coming home and comes to greet me like that. And it never fails, our dog will come look out the door with her. I am *loved*

Keep these stories coming, I am enjoying them too!

So, last night after a conversation with my 10 y/o dd, she says, "Mom, I'm so glad that you're so open with us--I feel like I can ask you anything."

(awwwww!!!) Then she follows with, "Even though you always give me your opinion, you respect my ideas too."

"Even though..." The tone just had me :LOL (yes, sometimes I'm delusional enough to believe that I have a crumb of advice that's worth offering.) Funny thing was, she TOOK some of my advice on this particular topic. I love watching this growing up process--trying so hard to make her mark, needing me to fall back on, but not wanting to really admit it...
I am so teary reading these posts! My eldest is only 6 1/2 but it seems that he is closer to the preteen set than the toddler set -- so I was getting teary thinking of him getting older and "getting ready to fly". My dd is that much younger, and so it doesn't seem quite as poignant with her.... I mean she just weaned like last year!

I can't think of anything to share...but I had a great time reading your posts!!!!
Okay, I've got another one--I KNOW I'm not the only mom with cute kids though, so come on folks, speak up!!

Last night ds is watching tv and dd walks in the room. Knowing she doesn't like scary movies, he tries to trick her and shouts, "Quick! Don't look! It's scary!!" (He wasn't watching anything scary.) Dd doesn't even miss a beat--she glances at the tv, casually sits down in the chair, gives him a whithered look and says with a sigh, "I just hate it when you try to manipulate me like that."

:LOL
My nearly 13 yr old daughter, still thinks that my lap is her possession. What's more amazing to me, is how easily I give it up to her. I will find myself watching tv, and after about 10 minutes, notice that she has placed herself across my lap, without me even knowing that she is there. I know! How could I NOT notice, a 5'1" - 90 lb person on your lap? It's just one of those things that happens, I'm certain that she herself doesn't think about it either, if she did, I'm sure she wouldn't do it. The independant teen that desires to separate herself from mom is lurking in the shadows, and is definetely creeping in. Old habits are hard to break, since she nursed until she was 24 months, my lap was her place, and continued through out her childhood. Since she is the youngest of four, I know, that these moments will only be a passing memory, and I am grateful for all those years!
Last night my 7 year old son declared at the dinner table that he could no longer eat meat.

It made me feel good that he came to this decision by himself, shared it with us and explained why, very intelligently (not that he had to explain)

How adorable! Here's one of my "cute moments": I lived in Florida for most of my life, so snow is a big deal to me. We're in England now. A couple weeks ago ds (13) was out walking the dog while I was upstairs cleaning. The phone rang and dh answered it. It was ds on his cell phone saying, "Tell mom to look out the window." It had just started to snow, and he knew I'd be excited. I thought it was so sweet that he had to tell me right away.
