I didn't want to hijack anyone's thread... so here goes...

I'm thinking about going back to work and I've been calling around and may have found a great daycare place (for really reasonable rates!) and now I need to figure out how to handle the vax issue.

I have a 3.5 yr old dd - who is partially vaxxed and a 17 mo old ds -no vax. I know I'm going to have to claim a religious exemption and I sort of know the law regarding that but...

Do I just write a letter and give it to them or do I have to have a pediatrican sign off on it? (FTR- I will be taking the kids to a very non-vax friendly NP (and paying out of pocket : ) for the physical sheet that will need to be filled out.)

Is it really true that a religious school will not accept a religious exemption?

I live in NJ, but the daycare is in PA. Whose laws do I have to abide by? (haha. That cracked me up a little...)

It's a private daycare, but how do I find out if they accept any government money so I can use that in case of a problem?

TIA!
You must follow PA laws and your physician has nothing to do with filing a religious exemption. What I just learned is that licensed daycares in the ENTIRE UNITED STATES must report the vaccination status of their attendees to their state health dept.'s, so I'm guessing that all states would have exemptions available for daycare/preschool. ???

Thanks Mommy To Baby Roni!

Okay - So I just found out that this place accepts subsidized rates. So I guess my private school/denying exemption thing may not be so much of an issue.

Anyone else in PA want to tell me how they wrote their letter? The Dept. of Heath info from PA says The only exemptions from immunizations are: ...A written objection on religious grounds signed and dated by the parent or guardian. That seems sort of vague. How detailed should I get? Or is a basic "vaccines don't jive with my faith" letter enough?

There is a good sample letter for NC online:

http://www.vaccines.bizland.com/exemption.pdf

I would try adapting it to PA by pasting in the PA statue in the appropriate place and taking out the NC statute. Although really all you need is your personal statement that vaccination is against your religious belief, it looks more "official" to have a copy of the state statute about exemption on there as well.
