I hope that this is normal, but I'm not so sure. It's virtually impossible to keep my 22-month DS seated at meals. He is excited at mealtime to get in his chair or booster, but when he's done (which is always within a few minutes), he's DONE. He asks for his napkin, and then it's "Down......Down!.....DOOOOWN!"
At home, after some attempt at keeping him busy in conversation ("what did you do at Millie's today?", "What songs did you sing today?"....), we oblige him. He will often then try to get us away from the table, saying "Mommy, done supper. Play." He is starting to accept that mommy and papa aren't finished yet, but it still doesn't keep him in his chair.
When we're out, we get the same thing, but it makes for a bigger issue obviously. We're down to one restaurant that we feel comfortable going to, since it's family-owned, we know the owners, and they don't mind us wandering. But it makes for a less than enjoyable meal for us if one of us is constantly following him around. And any attempt to keep him in his seat results in a dramatic physical and emotional display....
Anyone ever have this same issue? At first I figured it was typical, but I am always seeing these perfectly quiet toddlers in restaurants....just sitting in their seats. Are they drugged? Any suggestions? I know that we need to begin disciplining him with respect to this, but I don't know how.....
Thanks for reading....
