I had a night from hell.

The last three have gone down like this. EXACTLY. Basically I don't sleep much - and temp every frakking HOUR on the hour - because I'm obsessed and want to be pregnant SO BAD.

I have come to this theory about temps. Which DONT MAKE ANY SENSE. But if they do to you - please enlighten me with your thoughts.

I've always believed that the following causes temps to rise:

* Movement. ie: don't get up to pee. don't do anything before you temp - may cause false temps? Or some shit.

* TIME. Any BBT calculator will give you 2 tenths of a degree for every hour if you have to take your temp EARLIER than usual. Which basically means that the longer you lay in bed the hotter you get? The later you take your temp the higher it should be. Or some shit. It should be noted i've not made any adjustments on my chart thus far - i always take the 6:30 temp. Whether I sleep or not. And usually I don't.

THIS is what I have discovered after three nights of taking temps more than anyone should ever shove a thermometer up their whooha.

My temp will go up - about two tenths a degree for every hour I'm in bed....BUT ONLY IF I ACTUALLY SLEEP.

If I toss around (movement) and sorta sleep, but not really, MY TEMPS GO DOWN. WTF? How does that work? How can restlessness and NOT ACTUALLY SLEEPING not make your temps RISE?

So if I happen to get a good temp reading (because I actually slept in that hour) - i get all stoked thinking the next hours (or maybe 2 hours) temp is going to be out the roof - and so I DONT SLEEP (pretty much lay there in bed...maybe getting 5mins here and there) and the temp drops.

Its quite maddening.

So this morning. The reading I got at my normal temp taking time. Did not please me.

But the others did.

And this is a big FRAKKING DEAL. So you have to decide.

WHAT THE HELL DO I PUT IN FF TODAY???

*Also - I was hot as dickens again - all night. Not sweaty - just clammy! Like I get during the day.

That is weird, my temp shoots up if I have been awake or moving around for a while :s
I say go with whichever temp makes you chart look the nicest - that's what I would do Good luck!

I don't think any of those temps are reliable.

I'd probably not put in a temp for last night, and see what happens tomorrow...How frustrating to not be able to sleep.

What time do you usually wake up? Use that temp, and check "sleep deprived" in the specifics box on FF. :-D. And then take a test.

Awe Zen, I don't know what to say about the temps, I'd go with one of the ones closer to your normal waking time. I think you should consider changing your temp time to 4:30ish since you seem to wake up about that time anyway, then maybe you will be able to get some rest after that because you won't be worrying about what your temp is doing.

i am so temping at 4am next month!

thanks for the input. either way, it appears its still as up in the air as it has been the last 2 days!

any suggestions on how I might be able to SLEEP tonight??

we stayed up late...watched the debate...didn't get in to bed till midnight and i was tired. but i just can't sleep for more than an hour at a time, i'm so anxious to get to 6:30.

i'd take tylenol pm (it works so well), but don't want to do that IN CASE.

Forest for the trees, hon, forest for the trees!

If you get lousy sleep every night or pretty much every night and still take your temp at the same time, then the good news is you'll get pretty consistent readings!

My vote: 98.1 on your chart, and hang in there a little while longer.

You poor thing!

Please stop torturing yourself, o famous zen, for your own sake and the sake of your future baby! If temping is giving you this much anxiety, maybe it's time to stop. Temping doesn't change anything and is not necessary. I know it's hard to want to know NOW, but temping doesn't give definitive answers. When it stops being fun, lightly interesting and/or useful (i.e., post ovulation), stop!

To sleep tonight, go for a short walk. Read something that has nothing to do with TTC, like some world problem, or how something works, then maybe a zen text if you like that. (Maybe Cheri Huber's There is nothing wrong with you? Or something by Thich Nhat Hanh, or Sylvia Boorstein?) Do some lovingkindness meditation for yourself and for the world. Give and get cuddly love from your husband, remember how you met and fell in love, think about how great that is. Have some tea.

Once you get into bed, if you find yourself tortured by TTC thoughts, just notice each one without grabbing onto it. Label it "thinking," or, if you want, say to yourself, "sleep is what matters now." You might have to do this many times, but keep practicing. Eventually you'll fall asleep. If you wake up again, return to watching your thoughts. Whenever you forget what you were doing, start over again as part of the process.

Peace to you, delightful zen! I wish you all the best.

I went with: "I need to chill".

Sweetie, it's gonna happen. You know that, I know you do. Be gentle with yourself like Sky said. This has got you wound so tight, and that can't be too great, you know.

Stop taking the Tylenol PM. My understanding of it, is once they sleep aid wears off, you're rudely jerked back out of sleep. This is what happens to me when I take it. I also have a tendency to get the restless legs when I take Tylenol PM. I've had better luck with Benedryl (2).

I'm a really bad sleeper too. I'm lucky to get a good nights sleep. I totally crash in bed after an evening riding horses at the barn. I do the sleep of the dead! Maybe find a nice cardio work out to do around 6-7 pm... then prepare for bed around 9-10. Couple that with a Benedryl or two, and be prepared to crash.

On nights I don't go riding... I tell myself a story to distract my mind. Otherwise, I'll lay in bed for hours thinking about various worries. Don't think about babies during this time though... that'll get you off track. Do you have a favorite novel or movie that you could day dream about to help fall asleep? That also works for me.

haven't been taking any tylenol PM since we started TTC...

it is like wonderdrug to me though.

is benedryl okay for me to take? i might try that....

i need a damn tranquilizer!! i'm good throughout the day - its the minute my head hits the pillow and I'm staring at the clock that the restlessness sets in.

maybe i aught to put the clock on the floor or something so i can't see it...and just let the alarm let me know when its 'time' (as IF i needed one...)

olerica: you know the scene in SAY ANYTHING?? Lloyd is at the party - he is the KEYMASTER. He grabs the shitfaced dude who wants to leave - and says "YOU MUST CHILL!!!" This is the scene I think of often these last couple of days...

I say you average them.... that would get you 98.158, which rounds up to 98.2.

and THEN you need to chill! Temps do not actually make you pregnant. When are you POAS?

i think you need to recommit to the no temp promise.

it doesn't matter what temp you put in. you either ARE or ARE NOT pregnant. the temp you input isn't going to change that fact in the slightest. QUIT WORRYING ABOUT YOUR TEMPERATURE. you could put in 100.3, but it won't change anything...

i'm only saying this because you were really upset last cycle that you were such a crazy person about this. keep your head on straight and think ZEN. you need a mantra or something!

Use the temp that you took after 3hours of sleep. Don't use any other temp.
There is a reason for getting 3hours of sleep before temping.
