I went to the ob/gyn for an exam today. He asked if I was still bfing. I said yes, he said, how long has it been?

2.5 years.

He almost fell over. He said, "That must be some kind of new record for California! I once knew a lady who bf till her son was 3!"

I told him I thought it was becoming more common!

The weird thing is that he is actually really pro-bfing, LLL posters all over his office, etc. He was asking me questions like I was a medically oddity like, "Is it true that you don't get engorged anymore? You just make enough for morning and night? Amazing! Mother nature is amazing!"

That is so funny! My very pro-bfing pediatrician thinks I have hit some kind of crazy milestone because my DD is 21 months old LOL MN is formula saturated

I do agree it is becoming a lot more common though!

Wow! In California? That's wild, I would think your OB would be more accustomed to long term BFing. My OB made a "joke" about my BFing past 2 years (so far) at my last visit. I told him to stuff it.

Yeah, in California. I only live an hour from Santa Barbara where I regulary see moms nursing toddlers, slings, and all that. But here? He was seriously asking me questions about it and he's been an OBGYN for decades.

A record in California? I don't think so!

I saw a new GYN a few months ago and she was so awesome; I told her I was still bf my 3-year old (although he's since weaned) and she didn't bat an eye, just said "Great, worldwide average weaning age is between 4 and 5."

:LOL

I don't remember at what age they stop, but I know that DS's little take home paper from his 2 year check up still said "Bfeeding is the best for your child blah blah blah." The only time our ped was phased was when I told her I was going to nurse through my pg, but she seemed to just be interested and I hope she doesn't react with such shock the next time a patient says the same thing!
